autoit is for windows only. it doesn't do mac.

you can run a virtual machine of windows and use autoit in that, That's how i develop everything, in a dev vm.

My resources are limited. You must ask the right questions

That is correct.  As is stated on the download page,

AutoIt "...works on the following operating systems:

  • Windows XP and Windows Server 2003
  • Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008/2008 R2
  • Windows 7
  • Windows 8 (desktop mode)
  • Windows 10 (desktop mode)"

It is a Windows only application and can not be installed on or automate MAC OS applications.

Earthshine's recommendation is the only way to run AutoIt on a MAC, but is still cannot be used to automate MAC applications that way, just the Windows VM running.

 

If you are trying to automate on the MAC OS and have at least High Sierra installed, perhaps you could use the native Automator tool?
