Question Regarding Serial COMS

Recommended Posts

So I recently started using the COMMG UDF and yesterday it was working 100% with my device (A small transmitter/receiver) as of today though I can no longer communicate with it at all?

Nothing has been changed on my PC (No updates, on Windows 7)

The Example script no longer works either. If I open the port the window just sits there blank whereas yesterday it was constantly updating with data. I can't think of why this would be, any help would be appreciated! I guess what I am mainly looking for is any troubleshooting I can do to find out why.. I don't really know much about how the devices/script works as far as what BAUD is and everything but I did try all the different variation of BAUD's to make sure it wasn't miss communicating or something.

So I am attempting to read data coming from some wireless devices using a Transmitter / Receiver. I was using a UDF by Martin that allowed me to do this but it randomly stopped working. The only thing I can find that MAY give me a reason is that the devices apparently run off of a network? The devices came with its own software that when ran it displays that its listening to COM10 (The devices my computer is connected to) and Network: 1234. The only thing I haven't been able to decipher is this network ID (I think its a TCP port or something?

So my question would be how can I tell my device or the UDF to listen to said port?

Here is the source for Martin's example (Worked one day and stopped the next)

I'm prety sure COM doesn't talk TCP.  I'd suspect there is a software component that is creating a virtual COM port and does the IP:port communication in the background.  What is the device and software name?

The device is a Datalink Wireless Interface

FCC Info

And the software is the same name: Datalink.

I just got off the phone with the technical support side of the company and they informed me that they run off of a Zigbee network? I'll look into that more but just throwing that out there.

To add more mystery as of today its working again. I am the only one with access to both devices so nothing has changed. No modifications were made to anything. Anyone know why this is? Is there something on the computer side that I got lucky on... like a variably changing frequency / channel?
