This function is based on _WinAPI_UniqueHardwareID() in WinAPIDiag.au3. The flags which can be used in this function are exactly the same flags as in _WinAPI_UniqueHardwareID().

An example of StringEncrypt (which is _StringEncrypt but using the Crypt functions instead) with the password parameter set as the hardware id of the user's system.

Neat.

Not sure how much of a fan I am of doing the registry part, it can be copied for groups/vm/users/etc.

But, if you're going to use it, I'd make a few changes.

1. Give the user the option to search 32bit registry even if compiled 64 bit.

2. Not everyone has access to "Local Machine", so I'd use the "Current User" settings.

3. Condition statements for arrays compared to strings is kind of scary ( eg. $aDrives <> '' ).

4. Why the HUGE StringMids instead of RegEx!? lol

True, though I didn't test to see if these values were in HKCU.,

3. Condition statements for arrays compared to strings is kind of scary ( eg. $aDrives <> '' ).

This is what the return value of DriveGetDrive is when there is an error.

4. Why the HUGE StringMids instead of RegEx!? lol

This was a direct copy from Yashied's function.

Thanks for updating. I didn't add #include-once as this wasn't meant to be a UDF, but just a standalone function. I will update accordingly.

DriveGetDrive returns a "string" on a failure and an array on success... I guess it's a good thing that "" evaluates to zero, because that's just :x . I think someone fell asleep there.

Proof it does indeed:

ConsoleWrite(VarGetType(DriveGetDrive("oops")) & @CRLF)

Common sense plays a role in the basics of understanding AutoIt... If you're lacking in that, do us all a favor, and step away from the computer.

Not sure how to answer that, I don't return an empty indexed array on a failure (unless it's by design), if that's what you're asking.

I updated the example and improved the regular expression used to format the unique identifier. I also decided to use the Global Constants found in APIDiagConstants.au3.

Hello I know is an old thread but I'm using this Function in my script and I'm having 2 basic troubles that I've been unable to solve:

1- Gives same HWID to diferent PC in many cases

2- It happens with two users of my script that the hardware id change every time they reboots their PC.

I'm using the function by default so it gets the 

$UHID_MB

but with this two users no matter if use other parametter like 

 $UHID_CPU

the HWID keeps changing

Perhaps try using the _WinAPI_UniqueHardwareID function instead.  Hopefully that will provide more reliable, stable results.
