[Solved] How to check if "Shockwave Flash Player" installed?

Hi all,

I looking for simple way to check Shockwave Flash Player on the system, i mean when we use Shell.Explorer object, and navigating to some flash video on the net, if the Shockwave Flash Player not installed, then all what we see is the link: Click Here

So my task is to check for browsers ability to play flash videos on certain system.

Is it possible to check this simple as possible?

On my system i have Shockwave Flash Player, but the scripts from there shows that i did not have.

Also this html page shows this:

Shockwave activex control for Internet Explorer not detected

But i can watch flash videos on my Internet Explorer.

Any ideas?

I have Flash Player installed and that says I don't.

there is another object called 'ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash' but it does not provide version information.

I dont know if this is still correct but at least some time ago ShockwaveFlash and Flash player where 2 different things

Thanks, but there used ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash object, but i think it installed on the system by default (i check this object on the system where flash player not installed).

Ok, i came up with two versions of the function ShockWavePlayer_Installed()...

When i rename the file @SystemDir & "\Macromed\Flash\Flash9d.ocx" to something like test.ocx, i get False on bouth functions, and when i go to Internet Explorer and try to watch flash video (on youtube for example), i get this:

Hello, you either have Javascript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.

And when i rename back, i can see the flash videos with no problems, and in bouth functions i get True!

Any thoughts? is these functions are reliable on diferent systems?

Couldn't you read the registry? I'm sure it would be under the Adobe or Macromedia entry (Depending on which version)

Can you look please in system dir, do you have there Macromed folder? what inside if you do? (i need to know what dll/ocx files are there).

Couldn't you read the registry?

The registry constantly changing, but thats an alternative idea, thanks.

you have these files in System, not System32?

What @SystemDir return for you?

It returns the System32 directory.

If I do this:

But do you have System32 directory? or only System? as i understood you are using Win 2000?

haha, of course I do I have both directories under C:\WINDOWS

(It should be C:\WINNT but I upgraded from WIN98.)

I don't know what the difference between those dirs is. All I can notice, is that all the dll's are in the system32 dir. The other one has dll's too, but less.

You know, now that I mentioned this, I suppose one of them belongs to Win98... but I don't know, I'm no expert.

Then how is it possible that this path: C:\Windows\System\Macromed\Flash\Flash*.ocx is exists on your system?

one of them belongs to Win98

I have clean Win XP install on my computer, and i have C:\Windows\System as awell, but @SystemDir is System32.
