neoSearch 1.86

This reminds me a *lot* of Locate.

Also, so far for me neoSearch doesn't beat the footprint nor the speed of Locate. At least on my machine.

And for the record... I've no clue how to make neoSearch faster.

*And* I skipped to the end after the first few pages of "release your source" rants, so... did you ever fully release it all?

Is there a ZIP of everything?

What's your obsession with Locate? seriously... It's not even made in AutoIt... This forum is for programs made in AutoIt... Did you create it or something?

I can think of a faster, better, more advanced but still not bloated application that beats yours hands down. The application is called Locate.

Considering how adamant you are about not using other people's sources inappropriately or using them as your own, make sure you don't view the source code of Locate and use it yourself.

And by the way... if you would just post your sources, I wouldn't be so eager to recommend this program over yours.

We don't know what your file could do. For every single search it performs it could attempt to send personal information somewhere, delete a file, read registry entries for valid software licenses and so forth.

@fowmow (same reply for both my search engine topics)

I'm not going to look at the source code for locate and hence, I won't be able to copy anything. Enough people find neoSearch good enough and a good number major download sites trust the program and have certified it. The latest site to put up neoSearch is c|net's Download.com and they have certified it as absolutely safe. And enough people on this forum trust me. Jon has even put up the program in the Forum's download section.

We don't know what your file could do. For every single search it performs it could attempt to send personal information somewhere, delete a file, read registry entries for valid software licenses and so forth.

Is it strange that I don't find you running after Microsoft asking them for the Windows' source code? Anyway, if you can't trust my program, well then, don't. I don't need your seal of approval. About 16 people have downloaded neoSearch everyday on an average since it was released. Currently, the downloads stand at around 30 per day (sample from yesterday). And I'm definite, your approval of my program is not going to increase this number in any way, other than maybe for the copy you download.

Recommend Locate all you want... Giving me this sort of talk is not going to get me to release my code... I'm not some little kid to get sucked into that... You obviously want the source for other reasons: what makes you think i'm going to fall for the "i'm scared of your code" routine?

As great as locate may be, doing a Google search for both neoSearch and Locate will give you a good idea of which program is more popular on the internet....

What's your obsession with Locate? seriously... It's not even made in AutoIt... This forum is for programs made in AutoIt... Did you create it or something?

You are kidding right? I tell you that it does behave well on my system and you immediately get lost in your own warped reality?

You do not sound like a developer who's software should be trusted.

And no, I did not write it.

And besides, if you write a program that I found buggy or inadequate I would recommend another program whether it be created in AutoIt or not. Do not think you spouting about this being an AutoIt forum justifies your lacking program.

As great as locate may be, doing a Google search for both neoSearch and Locate will give you a good idea of which program is more popular on the internet....

You are a moron to think that the generic word "locate" would come up with as specific of results as "neoSearch" would. That is like me telling you to search for "a" and "Koshy John." Are you ecstatic at the fact you are more popular than "a?"

By my count, Locate gets 176,000 results where neoSearch gets 13,300. So, the only "good idea" that I have is that you cannot be trusted. Nor are you very bright, despite your obvious intelligence.

See http://www.autoitscript.com/forum/index.ph...mp;#entry392644 for my non-cross-posted and non-repeated response.

Let me make things very clear from my point of view:

1. Yes, I made a number of assumptions about you since your behavior up to this point closely resembled others I've seen before. I just didn't see it worth my time to take it up again since I've done it a lot before.. Its only after you posted in both topics that I thought I'd reply. While I do program in AutoIt, its not the only thing in my life that requires my attention. I really didn't see it worth my time at all to converse with you because it was nowhere near the top of my list of priorities.

2. I was totally aware of the reasons why the queries 'Locate' and 'neoSearch' returned results like they did. I just slapped together that answer because I did think at that time that your posts merited an intelligent reply since you seemed to be like all the ones before you who've asked for the *latest* source (a previous version is available in this thread; find it)... And to answer one of your earlier questions, no I've not made a ZIP or anything... you can inspect the (older) code, you just won't be able to compile it coz of the FileInstalls...

3. I'm 20 years old. The only reason I've released my programs online is to get recoginition for work well done (if you notice my personal details are put up in each program prominently). I'm presently entering my final year of engineering. And I'm not currently employed at any firm though I have job offers in the waiting. What I do is purely for the passion of it, to see something that'll work beautifully for myself and everyone else who cares to download.

I wouldn't risk my reputation by creating a program that intentionally performs anything malicious. Even unintentionally, neoSearch is not the kind of progam to create problems on a system (by the very nature of its task). If you do not trust me: there's nothing I can do about it. I'm afraid I simply do not have the time to get everyone to trust me. There are loads of people online who do trust me, and maybe some day, the others will follow.

And to reiterate, this is an autoit forum, where AUTOIT programs are discussed and shared. And you are one of the minority who think neoSearch is lacking.. Well like they say, you can't please everyone.. and neither should you attempt to... it'll simply be an exercise in futility...

I know I may have skipped one or more arguments you may have listed in either of your replies. If it is really important to you that they get replied, just give me one or two of you most important ones... Like I've stated over and over, I do NOT have the time to answer everything everybody asks... AND i don't have the time to go back to the neoSearch source to tweak it at this point of time...

I hope this answer at least partially satisfies you. And as for your comment about me crossposting in both topics, stating that "its shows what sort of a person I am", I simply have no idea what you are trying to imply... maybe that I'm too lazy to post different answers?? it may hav occured to you that I *might* be busy...

You do not sound like a developer who's software should be trusted.

You keep stating that over and over... I just noticed that... The only thing I've NOT done is release my source... And that automatically makes me untrustable?

In a very rough manner, I can conclude that your objective is:

- to obtain the source of the program for whatever reasons you need it

OR

- try to tarnish my reputation through a FUD campaign

Its definitely not to look at the code to be sure that its safe for you to run the program on your system. Because by your own admission, you've already run it and its not up to your expectations.

If you have any *genuine* questions or comments, please do leave them here... otherwise kindly stop bothering me... Anyone on the forum who feels that I'm being unreasonable in my response, may also leave kindly leave their comments here...

SOURCE ..

The source is available in the second or third page of this thread... Its just that its not the latest version...

Anything else?

Thanks for the support athiwatc

Let me reiterate the official position of the AutoIt team on this:

This is the example scripts forum right... Now if you'll look at the description:

A forum to share your cool scripts, User Defined Functions and AutoIt-based applications with others.

This is NOT a general support forum!

Since nobody is forcing anyone to run any program in this forum, I think my stand is justified.

I just want to end this discussion once and for all.

I had to add my thoughts too :)

First, there are obviously two major philosophical differences here. Being pissed at each other won't really achieve much with that. Arguing with an "open mind" (cliché I know) most likely will achieve much for many though. Again, there are two major programming different philosophies being discussed here (actually there are great books and sites out there on the concept of open source code and how (or not) we assist each other as programmers and beyond).

Secondly, as it's been said we can either trust KJ or not. If you think it's a cool program and want to use it, you can actually do much testing on his program to find out if it's malicious in any way (from watching packets sent to watching files).

Thirdly, "Burning" each other is silly (although amusing at times for other reading! ;) ). Maybe some times we get caught in the heart-racing passion of it and/or we're fighting and "burning" concepts we disagree with and not the person which we think carries it. I know this happens for me. It's just a shame, although humorous at times, that we divide ourselves so strongly. I really enjoy the community here. Arguing can be such a powerful thing, but it can also be childish in a negative way. However, as a friend once told me, "We get older, but we don't grow up."

KJ congrats on finishing your schooling soon and getting a sweet job. Congrats on the program (neoSearch) itself. Keep rockin' it crew.

PS. I think these differences are SO powerful we blended together, but then again people call me "idealistic" (which sounds cool to me) and pseudo-crazy ;)

I agree with you. But being the author of this program, I'm obliged to reply to the questions and comments regarding it... I can choose to ignore some... but eventually to assure casual readers that I'm behind the program 100%, I need to reply... I try not to take it to a personal level, even though many of the comments I've gotten of late try to take me there...

:) Understandable - I wasn't saying don't respond. In fact, I wasn't saying anything about you specifically or fowmow. Really, I was just giving my thoughts in a general-scope. I think you should support your app a 100% like you're saying. I hope I cleared that up ;) - that you know I wasn't specifically coming back at you or fowmow.

You created this app and nice job.

Let me make things very clear from my point of view:

1. Yes, I made a number of assumptions about you since your behavior up to this point closely resembled others I've seen before. While I do program in AutoIt, its not the only thing in my life that requires my attention. I really didn't see it worth my time at all to converse with you because it was nowhere near the top of my list of priorities.

Not worth your time and effort yet you made a long-winded and pointless reply.

You thought it merited an intelligent reply so you made up results that were not accurate? *That* is the behavior that makes me think you cannot be trusted.

I am quite sure no one but you really cares. Nor does anyone but you see the point.

If your intentions are truly honorable and sincere, then I hope for you that is true. (Which will bring me to another point in the next thread, since I could not quote both of your threads here.)

And to reiterate, this is an autoit forum, where AUTOIT programs are discussed and shared. And you are one of the minority who think neoSearch is lacking.. Well like they say, you can't please everyone.. and neither should you attempt to... it'll simply be an exercise in futility...

And to reiterate, it has nothing to do with whether or not you or your software can be trusted.

I could not care less. But a developer who did not want to "tarnish" his record might actually respond to issues people are having with his software.

Yet you had enough time to cross-post the answer. I meant to imply that you did not have much intelligence, nor did you have enough respect to reply to 2 separate threads. You again wrongly assumed that it warranted only one reply.

For the record, after I reply to the *other* posts you left in this thread either directly at me (one more) or indirectly (one more), I will totally drop this matter unless you wish to post more falsified claims, opinions that you label fact, or other shady actions. Otherwise, I will "leave you alone."

You keep stating that over and over... I just noticed that... The only thing I've NOT done is release my source... And that automatically makes me untrustable?

You did not notice anything. That was the first time I said it directly. All the other times I pointed out reasons pertinent to that thread or that scenario that led me to believe you could not be trusted, otherwise I said by adamantly refusing to post source for an "automation language" application, you are most undoubtedly hiding something.

Also, just because you are talented at rearranging my words or taking things out of context does not make you clever. It shows that you are futilely attempting to hide something. I said you did not sound like a developer who's software could be trusted in *direct* response with you ignoring my "genuine questions or comments."

You mean in a very idiotic manner. Your assumptions make you a complete, and I mean *complete* idiot. By you assuming that you know something about me is just the same as me saying I know something about you.

The only difference is I have proven what I think about you, or what I said might possibly be construed from your attitude and actions. You on the other hand have made stuff up and conjectured thus far.

If you have any *genuine* questions or comments, please do leave them here... otherwise kindly stop bothering me... Anyone on the forum who feels that I'm being unreasonable in my response, may also leave kindly leave their comments here...

I *had* genuine comments, and listed specific things that I noticed in comparison with another program, remember? You ignored them.

At first I meant for you to take a look at a program that had no problems on my system and possibly compare them. Then you went off on a tangent, so I told you make sure you do not. Since you are so stuck on closed-source applications.

Again in closing... I will "leave you alone" once I have replied to the rest of your threads. After that, I am done unless you would wish for me to point out you deception even further.

Do not be like Koshy John, athiwatc. Assuming things about people can only lead you down a narrow, negative road.

So you *do* share your source code. So I fail to see how that statement has any bearing.

Anything else?

Fair enough, you could have initially said that to my initial "has the source been posted" question. Might have alleviated us getting into this tiff where you have proven nothing but your dishonesty.

Let me reiterate the official position of the AutoIt team on this:

This is the example scripts forum right... Now if you'll look at the description:

And you talk about me constantly "going back to [this]." You hold on to that one as tight as a drunkard's flask.

Let me explain something to you since you lack the capacity to grasp it. A standard Javascript application is not compiled. Yet it is still an application. A standard VBS file is an application that is not compiled. A BATCH (DOS) program is an application that is not compiled.

Are you so naive that you do not understand that? Or do you expect everyone reading this to be so stupid that we all just go, "Ooooh, he's gotta' be right since he keeps repeating that single statement over, and over, and over again."?

By that very definition, AutoIt scripts are applications in their script form. I have no clue what the original writer of that specific line meant, whether it be AuotIt in script form or AutoIt in it's wrapped EXE form, but I know my understanding of it and what several (hundred it seems) others understand it as. You are the primary one with that failure to understand that I have seen thus far. (There could be more.)

Since nobody is forcing anyone to run any program in this forum, I think my stand is justified.

I just want to end this discussion once and for all.

Then stop. After this post I am done. I did notice one thing though, I forgot to *spefically* address this:

Because by your own admission, you've already run it and its not up to your expectations.

Aaaaaaand? Just because I have verified your program to the best of *my* ability does not mean it does not do something nefarious. I said that as well elsewhere, but you probably ignored that too because it served your purpose of ripping conversations apart and putting them back together in a way that made sense for you. Or helped to pull the wool over someone's eyes anyway...

So that is that. Take care, Koshy John. Good luck in your software career, become more attentive to your user's needs, *do not* ignore a program's life cycle, and for God's sake, stop making stuff up. Like I said before, it proves you are not very bright *despite* your obvious intelligence.

I had to add my thoughts too ;)

First, there are obviously two major philosophical differences here. Being pissed at each other won't really achieve much with that.

JohnBailey = :)

Nice to get a breath of fresh air when there is nothing but smoke about.

I tried not to get personal about this in fairness, but I got *really* tired, *really* fast of Koshy John assuming things about me and telling me that *my* intentions were questionable when I have done *nothing* but debate his attitude.

I do agree though, arguing sometimes brings us to a level we should not be on. Like I told Koshy John, I am done. I have got nothing further on the matter to say.

Unless of course gasoline is invariably thrown back on the dying fire.

@fowmow

1. My dishonesty?

Fair enough, you could have initially said that to my initial "has the source been posted" question. Might have alleviated us getting into this tiff where you have proven nothing but your dishonesty.

You asked me if the entire source has been posted. I said no, because quite obviously the code is old and the images and other supporting files have not been put up. I *assumed* you meant the entire source, because the incomplete source is the FIRST post on the SECOND page. If you didn't have to patience to skip to the second page (second. not the fifth or the tenth), how can you blame me for my answer?

What have I done that can be construed as dishonest? Your questions are basically a repeat of what has been posted at one time or the other on this thread. I make a software for the passion of it, I do not charge anyone for it and I do not commercially benefit from it in any way. I take time out of my other responsibilities to answer questions like this. The least you can do is have the decency to go through what I've already answered.

I'm honest and trustable (I should let my actions state that (and they have) but I had to say it). My behavior has always been consistent and nothing I've said or done supports your claim of me being dishonest.

2. Contradictory?

Like I said before, it proves you are not very bright *despite* your obvious intelligence.

and others like this one.

I tried not to get personal about this in fairness, but I got *really* tired, *really* fast of Koshy John assuming things about me and telling me that *my* intentions were questionable when I have done *nothing* but debate his attitude.

Aside from that... You intentions might have been good, but I've seen countless number of people who've approached me in the same way as you have with a thinly veiled intention of getting the source in a compilable form. To save on time, I made a generalisation (which proved to be false in your case; from your point of view, as I still don't know what you are up to). You obviously thought I was ill-mannered or something. I'm really sorry about that but for reasons I've stated earlier, this is the best I can do at the moment.

You thought it merited an intelligent reply so you made up results that were not accurate? *That* is the behavior that makes me think you cannot be trusted.

I'm sorry, there was a typo in my statement. I meant to say "I did not think it merited".

There might have been a couple of other misunderstandings like the one above (either typographical or by way of a difference in perception of meaning). I hereby apologize for any wrong you percieved me to have done.

Please stop posting in this thread, as nothing in the past few posts will ever help a new user of neoSearch in the future. If you want to continue this, you can send me a private message and I'll be happy to change my attitude if you can resonably convince me that I'm wrong. Attacking me unreasonably is not going to get me to change. I know now that you are intelligent enough to deduce that.

This guy makes an awsome program. (WHICH I USE!) And you guys dog him for the dumbest reasons. Lay off! The last thing someone needs after they finish something they are proud of is critisisim for the sake of critisisim. He can't be perfect like all of you, he is actually a human. And if he decides not to release his Source Code because of its value TO HIM, it is not for you to question this. If you don't like it than dont use neoSearch (which rocks), and leave the Topic before insulting anyone else. I would also like to add / congratulate Koshy on a job well done on your professional calmness and patience with the people who critisize neoSearch as lacking.(not saying any names *cough*)

BTW FYI Koshy John ... I sent you an email of appreciation. Congrats on the excellent program and beautiful GUI.

Cheers :)
