KJohn
OMG... OMG... OMG...I was pretty impressed by your code.. but when I ran the program... it said 28Gb was found in my recycle bin... I'm like huh... but I ran it anyway (like an idiot)... It was taking a lot of time... so I assumed it was being very thorough... The first hint of something going seriously wrong came when icons started disappearing from my desktop.. I killed the process immediately...I don't think my system will start up if I shut it down... God knows which system files have gone missing... I know the boot files have gone... I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate... If anyone around knows commands (like the old "fdisk /mbr") to restore my boot files, PLZ POST ASAP... This is an emergency!!!I'm presently going through shadow copies of my C: to find missing files... This is going to be a mission and a half... Thank god, I stopped it before personal files on other volumes were lost...Edit1: Restored system files from shadow copies... I hope the system boots up when I restart it...Edit2: Restored "program data" from shadow copy (september 1, 2007) - 226 files had shrunk to 85... I guess the 85 files were in use...Edit3: Restoring "Program Files"... It says "About 2 days and 19 hours remaining..." Edit4: The Windows dir has 7.5Gb of data compared to 8.99Gb in the shadow copy (about 2000 files are missing: which 2000???)Edit5: I'm leaving the system on overnight; this is just taking too long... If anyone knows what to do about the Windows folder, please leave a message. I'm not shutting down the system... Ensuring the power profile doesn't put it on standby either...Edit6: The Windows Vista Aero scheme has stopped rendering on new windows... I guess files related to that are gone...I used to think Microsoft's shadow copies thing was a waste of disk space.. I'm eternally thankful it was enabled. There were some files that I've lost, but this could have been so much worse. I guess this is poetic justice... for those of you who remember DiskMax... KJohn
the bug that caused the entire drive to be deleted has been fixed in this version (version 2). however if you decide to delete the traces that are marked in red you will mess up your pc you must also make sure that other programs that runs in the background are off (like antivirus , internet access , ....) because some options like "clean empty space" takes time and resources so there is always a chance of failure.I just went through the entire thread now... NO, that bug hasn't been fixed... at least not on Windows Vista...I'm not blaming or complaining... I just want to let you know what happened...It was not the best time for this to happen... This is so frustrating...
mrbond007
I just went through the entire thread now... NO, that bug hasn't been fixed... at least not on Windows Vista...I'm not blaming or complaining... I just want to let you know what happened...It was not the best time for this to happen... This is so frustrating...thanks for your support, this script hasn't been tested on vista at all, i'm currently planning on adding support for Vista (check my second post). I have tested this version over and over on 98/me and XP and it worked great, so i have no idea how it will react on Vista . The bug is mostly caused by AutoIt not being able to retrieve the current drive letter, if for example you call @HomeDrive and it returns "" instead of "C:" or any other letter than this happens. There is also the "\" issue sometimes it returns "C:\" and sometimes "C:\\". Also each version of AutoIt has a different effect on this script which is indeed frustrating. Anyway i'm planning on splitting space regain in 3 version depending on the OS to avoid such bugs. Sorry for your lost but rest assure that safer options and methods will be added in later releases to avoid this kind of problems. Washing the free space fills the hard drive with junk and if you decide to stop or wait for it to finish the junk files will get deleted automaticlly. TonyDAndrea
Mr mrbond007, I think I solved the problem with the Index.Dat --> Cookies(Index.Dat) not showing up when the radio button is selected. (I'm using AutoIt 3.2.7.0 Beta) I changed the following in the Cookiemonster func: Func cookiemonster($sFilePath, ByRef $aArray) Local $hFile $hFile = FileOpen($sFilePath, 0) $aArray = StringSplit(FileRead($hFile), "Cookie:" & @UserName & "@", 1) FileClose($hFile) Return 1 EndFunc I changed the "Cookie" to "Cookie:", and now my cookie list appears. I hope this helps... Tony D.

These are the theme files for windows xp.Anyway in the next version i'll reconfigure everything and make 2 edition, one for beginners (which is safe to work with) and one for experts (which is simillair to this one). BullGates
Updated to pro, Now compatible with VISTA.More to come ...Hello, thanks for the nice program!! The download from the AutoIT page seems to end up with a corrupt zip file.I have a suggestion, maybe you want to implement this on the Applications tab: how a button to check for traces of installed applications so we can select them automatically? Then we have an idea of what may been left behind by uninstallers. Then we have an idea of what may been left behind by uninstallers.I added an external link to download it because the server is having problems, one of them is corrupting all zip files. I'm not the only user that has this problem As for checking the traces left by applications it will make the script twice as big, so it will become alot slower. I have to free more time to work on it, since i'm currently working on other projects. Thanks for the feedback. Raik
If the cops (or terrorists) pay you a visit they won't be able to retrieve any information.does it stress (and probably kill) my harddisk a thousand times with overwriting again and again, to detain datarecovery-specialists from doing her job?if you dont want to be caught, you shold do nothing illegal, or buy a system, witch supports large (8 gig) ram and direct all suspicious data to a ramdisk. Draygoes
One main question to ask, is this tool safe to use in windows Vista? I want to make sure that it is 100 % safe. If not, could you please tell me which options are 100% safe and which options are not. P.S. Looks great!!!!!! Spoiler "If a vegetarian eats vegetables,What the heck does a humanitarian eat?" Thanks for the feedback. The "Applications" and "Registry Cleaner" sections are safe to use in Vista but you should always create a backup just in case something bad happens. this script may run perfect on some pc's but it depends on the Os configuration. I'm currently working on splitting the sections in subscripts to make Space Regain safer and better to use.
