More complete example of using Scintilla in AutoIt

This started from the Uten's Scintilla example, but I added some functionality to it.

Now it looks like Notepad.

And the most important - it has SYNTAX HIGHLIGHTING for:

*.au3,*.bat;*.cmd;*.html;*.htm;*.php;*.properties;*.ini;*.inf;*.reg;*.url;*.cfg;*.cnf;*.aut.... more are comming....

- you can define your own styles for the highlighter

- shows Line numbers

- has Code folding

- find/replace with regular expressions

The SciLexer.dll MUST be in the PATH or in the script dir. You can download it from

(this is Scintilla.h converted to au3 format)

The highlighters style definitions:

highlighter.au3.txt - for AU3 files

highlighter.bat.txt - for BAT files

highlighter.html.txt - for HTML/PHP files (It is not fully complete, but works for PHP/HTML)

highlighter.ini.txt - for INI/INF/CFG/PROPERTIES files

highlighter.txt.txt - for plain text

i've worked hard on richedit 4.1 (used by Word 2003) to have colored keyword and so on, and you simply post this code...which is just too cool and to simple to make syntax highlighting, thx a lot for the solution

i definitively adopt this really easiest solution

Can this be used to get the higlighted code into variable, and wrapped with html/xml tags? i know that SciTE has an option to export the script into xml file, perhaps iot uses a function from SciLexer.dll?

Do you want to get the current selection as a XML formatted string?

Edit: Anyway, I can't find any build-in function that takes care of that. Seems like you'd have to write it yourself.

Very good example. I really like it. One little thing I would fix is when you press "save" after using "save as" it should overwrite the currently saved file, not ask you again where to save. Other than that, I love it.

No, i just need to pass some code (as variable for example) to the dll, and it will convert it to html highlighted code (the syntax is highlighted with html tags).

There is one, but significant issue with using this method - the SciTE editor must be runing. I was hoping that using the SciLexer.dll (or similar dll) i will be able to convert the code quitly...

The "exportashtml:" is a SciTE function so that will not work unless SciTE is started.

The posted script uses the SciTE Director Interface to send the commands to SciTE.
