Cannot get simple au3 file to execute - "The system cannot find the file specified"

It's been several years since the last time I've used AutoIt so I'm going way back to basics. Just trying to get a simple script to run like activating a Notepad window or even directly copying and pasting from the tutorial, keeps giving me the same error that the system can't find the file specified. I have the file saved to the correct location. I'm sure it's something simple, but I cannot figure out how get AutoIt to go.

do you have Autoit v16 installed,if not then i recommend  you to install it.

I did a full uninstall and reinstall.

I am on v3.3.16.0 released on 6 March, 2022 if that is what is included in the download installer from autoitscript.com/site/autoit/downloads

When I check the About info is says version 4.4.6 with release date of Mar 6 2022.

do not use SciTE Lite but the full version from Jos and try again.

In addition to @Exit's good advice, I would double check to make sure your Anti-virus software isn't interfering with the script execution.

@ad777 I am getting an error with that AutoIt3 zip. I downloaded the zip to my downloads folder and get the error when trying to extract it.

@Exit What is "Jos" ? When I download version 3.3.16.0 and launch SciTE with it, I get the Lite version even though this option from https://www.autoitscript.com/site/autoit/downloads/ says full installation

Where do I find the full version?

i think it's problem with zip file download below rar and extract it.

 

Note:this files from latest version of Autoit installed.vr16

You can download the full version of Scite from here.

P.S. I wouldn't recommend downloading Autoit from an alternate source since you have no idea if any changes have been made.

@Danp2 I'm only downloading from the autoitscript.com site, nowhere else. The link you provided, I get an error on that exe file. 

I have also rebooted after frigging around with this a few times just to try to start with a clean slate. Still having issues.

@danp2 I've reached out to my internal IT support for them to check the anitvirus software (Webroot) since it's locked down and I can't do anything with it other than run a scan. It appears that Webroot could be stripping out files because my "threats removed" count has been increasing since I started this process earlier today.

@crashsoupI've used webroot in the past and it can definitely interfere with the install or execution of Autoit. Hopefully your IT team will be able to add the appropriate exclusions so that you can avoid future issues.

@mLipokI suspect that the AV software will react the same way (ie: quarantine the main EXE file) no matter which version of Autoit is used.

My internal IT did say that Webroot picked up a file it didn't like but I haven't heard back from them about specifically which piece of the install process is freaking out Webroot.

Based on your earlier posts, I'd confidently say it "autoit3.exe'. 😉

Please refrain from ever suggesting this going forward! I post an official installer for a good reason!

My internal IT said Webroot is picking up a W32.Trojan.Gen that was added to their library on 7 Mar 2022 and is blocking the installation. So there is something within the exe that Webroot definitely doesn't like.

@crashsoup  Please look at the following thread : 

You will understand that the problem comes from just about any AV, not solely from Webroot.  Maybe showing this link to your IT staff could help them to exclude some folders...
