Outlook - find if status mail has being emailed out at the correct time

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the explanation Water, I thought I was onto something with the '-' key and '=' key being beside each other(leading me to believe it was a typo).  I'll change it back and see if I can work it out, but as it works currently. I'll just give it another hour of trying :) thanks again

unless you can confirm, that you left something out of that function on purpose to cause it to fail?

You are relying on a 'store and forward system' (email delivery infrastructure) to determine status. If any of the mail servers in the chain are down down or overloaded (spam) before your mail arrives, the trigger email is still in the works and will be delivered later when conditions improve, but you have probably initiated nuclear war in the meantime as you panic over non-arrival.

Are you just testing the remote machine is still up, or is the expected email contents the mission critical thing? Can you ping it, or check the existence of a particular pre-determined file across the network? The results will be accurate for the time when you check it.

Hi @Confuzzled, just seen your reply now,......This little app which works perfectly now (I just rewrote, the function above with the exact same code and now it works -weird).

It just watches for a report that goes out to a group email twice a day(and it's normally bang on time)...it goes to all the managers in the company, including the CEO. There have being a few situations where the machine fell over after updates (now moved to a VM) ….they base a lot of what they do off this crystal report, so it's pretty important.

so yes, the contents of this email are critical :)
