Is there a function that looks for Text? instead of Pixels?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if there is something similar to PixelSearch but for Text? I want to do  small test so the code will look for my name? maybe using the ImageSearch will work? honesty I dont understand the ImageSearch at all lol  i only understand how PixelSearch works.

Sorry for asking something so basic, Thanks

Impossible for me to say.  You will need to provide much more information : name of application, is it web app or windows app, is it readable with au3info.exe tools, is it pixel driven, etc, etc.  Maybe providing a screen capture of what you are trying to read would help...

I am not able explain much because I am just trying to figure out if its possible lol  maybe I didn't explain what I mean.

For Example: I have Facebook notifications turned on with Google Chrome, would it be possible to create a script to scan close to my system tray icons anytime there is a facebook notification? it always has the name "Facebook" so it would be simple, pretty sure PixelSearch will not work because it does only colors, I was wondering if AutoIT has something like an OCR (Optical Character Recognition), otherwise I think PictureSearch is the only option

Very very bad idea on relying on pixels for automating  a web site.  That would be the worst possible strategy.  I strongly suggest you use IE or other UDF to perform your automation.  But if you insist on going with pixelsearch or other pixel approach, I truly trusted that you will invest hundreds of hours for nothing, and that we will see you struggling in multiple threads with very little help...

When implementing a numeric solution, Instead of thinking as a human, you should think as a machine.  Human see a notification, but the machine has multiple ways to detect a particular alert.  Mimicking human is not the best approach of making a great software...
