This is working but if you have like 1000 mails, it took more than 5 minutes before it returns an output.

Do you only need to count the items in the root folder or do you need the count for the root plus every subfolder?

You could have a look at _OL_FolderSize to retrieve the count and size of items in a folder / all subfolders.
If this is still too slow then a stripped down version should be much faster by dropping the size calculation.

I have updated the OutlookEX UDF to Version 1.3.6.0.
_OL_Foldersize now supports a new parameter:
