Mary-Ann Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 I am new to AutoIt and not a tech but work in a software development company and have been tasked with setting up automated testing and your tool was recommended. I have studied the tutorials and am struggling with linking the app to my software programme. I found this online reference to Script Editor and downloaded the most recent version of AutoIt but Script Editor is not where it is referenced to be. Is it still a current tool? https://www.evoketechnologies.com/blog/autoit-windows-desktop-automation/
Mary-Ann Posted June 18, 2019 Author Posted June 18, 2019 Sorry that should have said Script Recorder.
BrewManNH Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 Look up a few topics form yours, the answer is there. Plus the recorder is only good for the most basic and straightforward of automation. Most of the time it can be done better by hand. If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.Give a programmer the correct code and he can do his work for a day. I hereby grant any person the right to use any code I post, that I am the original author of, on the autoitscript.com forums, unless I've specifically stated otherwise in the code or the thread post. If you do use my code all I ask, as a courtesy, is to make note of where you got it from. Back up and restore Windows user files _Array.au3 - Modified array functions that include support for 2D arrays. - ColorChooser - An add-on for SciTE that pops up a color dialog so you can select and paste a color code into a script. - Customizable Splashscreen GUI w/Progress Bar - Create a custom "splash screen" GUI with a progress bar and custom label. - _FileGetProperty - Retrieve the properties of a file - SciTE Toolbar - A toolbar demo for use with the SciTE editor - GUIRegisterMsg demo - Demo script to show how to use the Windows messages to interact with controls and your GUI. - Latin Square password generator
Mary-Ann Posted June 19, 2019 Author Posted June 19, 2019 Thanks BrewMan NH for your response. The reason I asked is because the ScriptRecorder is not in the AutoIT - Examples folder as indicated. So was checking if anyone could advise if this has been superceded or removed. I will instead take your feedback and try manual automation scripting.
Moderators JLogan3o13 Posted June 19, 2019 Moderators Posted June 19, 2019 Script Recorder was removed. If view the thread BrewManNH referenced (and I have linked below) you will see why it was removed, and what you can do to get it. I would caution you however, that BrewManNH is quite correct and you are better off skipping it altogether. AutoIt is a very powerful language, with a community very willing to help. It has libraries for supporting Web Browsers, Selenium for testing, and a vast array of other applications. Don't limit yourself by starting off with unstable mouseclicks and sends. If you can explain more about the exact automation steps you are trying to take, and the application you're working with, we will do our best to assist. Also, look in the directory where you installed AutoIt and find the AutoIt Window Info Tool. Open that up and drag the cross-hairs over a window in your application to see what kind of information is returned. Often you can grab the different elements of a window such as buttons and edit fields, and easily manipulate them. "Profanity is the last vestige of the feeble mind.
