Error Handling Help

Hey guys, I have written a decently large program and still don't REALLY understand how the error handling works with the stuff I have done. I am attempting to use what I have copied from the forums below. My main program is just the GUI that calls out to my other functions that do all the work.. Is that why the error handler doesn't ever pop up? Also because of the way that I have programmed what I have written.. The @scriptlinenumber doesn't help me, is there a way to see what text corresponds to that line is in the actual source? Also what is with 'COM' error handling? I'm not using COM ports.. am I attempting to do something that is completely stupid? 

I put this in the main program along with its function

COM error handling is related to COM/ActiveX Objects not to COM ports.

Using COM error Handler in Global Scope is'not stupid thing, provided you do not want to use a more advanced "Local" form.

I'm sorry, all I am looking to do is capture errors when my program crashes or when errors happen, and show the script line & error basically.. I think using a com function might be the wrong thing? Is there a page somewhere to learn about how to handle errors in your program?
