_Excel_Open() COM error -2147221164

Hello,

Suddenly, I am getting an error (@extended = -2147221164) when I try to open excel using:

#include <Excel.au3>
_Excel_Open()
If @error Then MsgBox(0,"",@error &@CRLF &@extended)

Can anyone help with this?

Do you have Excel installed?

Yes, I have been using this kind of scripts for years and for the first time I see this today.

Excel is working fine when I open files by myself but with Autoit there is something wrong.

Does ypur code return some @error code?

Are you not able to use Excel object?

The @error is 1 but the @extended is -2147221164

Trying this also gives the same:

$oExcel = ObjCreate("Excel.Application")

The value of extended (decimal) stands for 0x80040154 (hex) and means:
COM Exception: Class not registered - HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG)

• Do you run a full version of Excel (not a trial version or an upgrade after you have installed a trial version)?
• Which version of Excel do you run?
• Did you install or update your Office software lately?

It's a full version "Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus" Microsoft Excel 2016 MSO (16.0.10325.20036) 64-bit

It was updated recently but my scripts worked fine until today.

Do you compile your AutoIt script for 64 bit as well?

No, but it's not working at all even from SciTE (uncompiled).

This is only happening on this computer.

Could you please add

#AutoIt3Wrapper_UseX64=Y

and it give it a try (from SciTE or compiled)?

So your script worked fine before the update ("It was updated recently but my scripts worked fine until today."), after the update and it stopped working today?

So the question is: What has been changed yesterday?

It is a work computer, last week (Sunday) was the last time the script was used and it was shut down then today, windows (10) itself was updated, but it wasn't even working before windows update.

So, nothing really was changed from what I see.

Could you please try the _Word_Create() fu ction, and see if the issue appears there too?

Seems you need to re-install/repair MS Office

As @water suggested ( and as I was thinking ), try to repair/reinstall MS Office from the Control Panel.
