If script exists/already running

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Is there a way to determine whether the script that is running, is already running, without using;

If WinExists

?

Or is there a way to use "If WinExists" to determine the script itself?

The reason I am asking this is because if I want someone to run the .Exe I have and they rename it to whatever they want, how could I then determine in the script to check if there's already an .Exe open, or the script itself is already open?

Should I use Class, or how do I achieve this?

Thanks in advance.

Look up _Singelton in the help file.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

Back up and restore Windows user files _Array.au3 - Modified array functions that include support for 2D arrays.  -  ColorChooser - An add-on for SciTE that pops up a color dialog so you can select and paste a color code into a script.  -  Customizable Splashscreen GUI w/Progress Bar - Create a custom "splash screen" GUI with a progress bar and custom label.  -  _FileGetProperty - Retrieve the properties of a file  -  SciTE Toolbar - A toolbar demo for use with the SciTE editor  -  GUIRegisterMsg demo - Demo script to show how to use the Windows messages to interact with controls and your GUI.  -   Latin Square password generator

Thanks for your answer.

If _Singleton("test", 1) = 0 Then
    MsgBox($MB_SYSTEMMODAL, "Warning", "An occurrence of test is already running")
    Exit
EndIf
MsgBox($MB_SYSTEMMODAL, "OK", "the first occurrence of test is running")
("test",

This is the identification of the title of the script, correct? - If the script name were changed, wouldn't it still be possible to run it twice after changing the name?

Or did I get it wrong? - Thanks in advance.

Should I maybe use

WinGetState

And refer to the Class:

Quote

AutoIt v3 GUI

instead?

Is there a way to refer to the script directly to get the script name, instead of typing in the name? like "@. .  "
Would this suffice?

If _Singleton(@ScriptName, 1) = 0 Then
    MsgBox($MB_SYSTEMMODAL, "Warning", "An occurrence of test is already running")
    Exit
EndIf
MsgBox($MB_SYSTEMMODAL, "OK", "the first occurrence of test is running")

@ScriptName <

How about trying it, and DON'T use @scriptname as the parameter because then if someone does rename it and run it again with the new name, this check will fail.

By the way, you put anything you want in the first parameter of _Singleton, any string will work in there. Just don't use anything tied to the name of the script that's interpreted at runtime such as any of the @Script* macros.
