haijie1223 Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 I've found the file that Chrome apparently uses to store the bookmarks. I want to delete the portion that contains the 'Other Bookmarks' folder that everyone hates, but I do not know how to recalculate the checksum that is at the top of the file. If I don't change it, Chrome apparently assumes the file is invalid and does not display any bookmarks. Can anyone tell me how to do this? In google chrome they have checksum value for bookmark file.if i add any bookmark manually i need to change checksum value otherwise browser don't display bookmarks. this is a bookmark file code: { "checksum": "addd5757dab4cd45847ab78d014c56fa", "roots": { "bookmark_bar": { "children": [ { "date_added": "13124529792138854", "id": "2", "name": "百度", "type": "url", "url": "https://www.baidu.com/index.php?tn=22073068_2_dg" } ], "date_added": "13120495208367584", "date_modified": "13122379904890797", "id": "1", "name": "书签栏", "type": "folder" }, "other": { "children": [ ], "date_added": "13120495208367590", "date_modified": "0", "id": "8", "name": "其他书签", "type": "folder" }, "synced": { "children": [ ], "date_added": "13120495208367591", "date_modified": "0", "id": "9", "name": "移动设备书签", "type": "folder" } }, "version": 1 }

MattHiggs Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Dang man. I don't think there is a way. I wsa going to say calculate the bookmark file check sum before you make changes to figure out which algorithm chrome is using to validate the bookmark file. Then, I would make the changes you want to the bookmark file, then after the changes, flush the file to disk to save the changes, then re-calculate the checksum and write it to the file, but writing the checksum to the file will, by its definition, change the checksum of the file. Hmm... What you could do is use URL gather and export all your bookmarks into the application, edit your bookmarks from within said application, save bookmarks to an html file, and then re-import? Would that work??
BrewManNH Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Delete the line with the checksum value in it, change the file as needed, then restart Chrome, the checksum value is then recalculated by Chrome. Very easy to do. If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.Give a programmer the correct code and he can do his work for a day.
