Game Project Permissible to share here?

I am not sure who to ask this.  I am going through a book on the  basic programming language, though instead of using that language I am porting the code sample programs to AutoIT.

There is one project I am adapting and working to expand just for learning purposes of the AutoIT language but also programming in general. I wanted to better acquaint myself with creating GUI's and using controls which this is perfect for that.  I am not sure though if it is ok for me to share this project here.

The original code from the book is not included, I will be creating my own versions of the images used instead of the samples available with the book and there is quite a bit of difference between the code in the book and the AutoIT code of the same project which I am writing from scratch using the book as a guide. Comparing the two you can see it is the same project but the code is quite a bit different between the two languages. Though I am trying to keep as close to the book as possible, even though I would not personally code the same way as the original author.

It is a Slot Machine Game written entirely in AutoIT ported from this book I am using.  After going through some of the samples and looking at the language itself I decided to forget about the basic language itself but I wondered if I couldn't use AutoIT instead.. So, that's what I am doing.

When I complete the port and get it working I would like to share it here and get help with improvements, specifically with the animation of the images in the game.  Though before I finish I was curious if it would be ok to share this when I get it done.

If it isn't that is fine, just a neat project for learning. Also where should I share this if it is ok?  This forum or the GUI forum?  It uses quite a bit of everything but is heavy in GUI Design.

Thanks.

iAmNewbe,

As long as the code is entirely in AutoIt and written by you, there is no problem with posting the script - perhaps this thread would be a suitable place. Nor is there any problem with asking for help with it - all we forbid is automation of third-party games.

I'm also interested.
Could you give here a link to a page describing the book, it would be a foretaste of what we will see in your code written in AutoIt.

The book is
http://cengageptr.com/Topics/TitleDetail/1305504437

Programming for the Absolute Beginner Second Edition

Author: Jerry Lee Ford Jr.
Pages: 394
Published: 07/23/2015
Publisher: Cengage Learning

The Slot Machine example is in chapter 9. The language used is JustBasic but the reason I didn't use that is because you can't compile a stand alone executable like you can with AutoIT, you can also embed the resource items like images directly into the exe with AutoIT where you can't with JustBasic. Also the basic version of their software is very old and does not run well on Windows 10, you have to pay $60 or something for the full version but I really don't like the language that well to pay for it so.. AutoIT.

I just finished the basic port over to AutoIT and it works but I want to rewrite a bunch of it because I am sort of embarrased with their code and I want to make it more into my own. One thing I had to do was use a for loop to get the animation of the slots to work, in the book they use a timer but I couldn't get that to work with AutoIT but I think the end result is the same. A bunch of other code had to be changed due to the differences in the languages but overall I think it is very similar.

They had a GUI with no title bar or header, the only way to reproduce that was to use $WS_POPUPWINDOW on the advanced style I think for the GuiCreate command. This also gives a border around the window. I wanted it draggable also but I couldn't figure out how to do that so I put 4 labels one around each corner and set them to parentdraggable it works but if you don't know the hotkey to close the program without looking at the code you are sort of screwed...  Going to forsake the popup GUI format and just go with a standard GUI window in the rewrite.

Shouldn't take long so will create a new thread just for this when I get done, probably this forum. I need to create the assets images and they have a sound that plays I may try to do that or leave it for you to figure out...   The code will be pretty much done and working but I would like to take it to a new level as a project or whatever you all want to do with it..  I was thinking like in casino slots the ones with multiple pay options where you can buy up to 5 or 10 lines and then it pays out that.. Though you also have more wheels as well.. Then there are the penny slots and the ones that you can choose the amount you want to pay per play or per line 25 cents, 50 cents, $1 per line etc..

Will update when done, I may need to sleep first but will be within the next 12 to 24 hours I think.

Also, I don't want to get sued by the publisher or author of that book so rewrite maybe good idea..
