giangnguyen
Hi all I have been working with some hashing but _Crypt_HashData is acting weird. After I use BinaryToString on the output, I get weird things like PÃÆ/þc7æäòð°}ö<. Can anyone help? I am on windows 10 if it matters, upgraded yesterday Edited July 25, 2016 by giangnguyen
jchd
No surprise here: you get exactly what you ask for. Q - "What do you think a random binary hash looks like, once interpreted as a string?" giangnguyen
Isn't the output supposed to give me the MD5 hash after running BinaryToString on it? Edited July 26, 2016 by giangnguyen
BrewManNH
No, the function returns the hash, no need to convert it to a string to see it, it's already a string. If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.Give a programmer the correct code and he can do his work for a day. giangnguyen
I know it is a hash already but is there any way to convert it to a "normal" MD5 hash? Like 6a7380b17b975ae2b78a325c8091b684 ?
jchd
As the help file clearly mentions, the output is a BINARY variant. Obtaining the hex value of the hash is soooo simple that I don't know if this is of any use. Local $bHash = _Crypt_HashData("Original data to be hashed", $CALG_MD5) ConsoleWrite(VarGetType($bHash) & " = " & String($bHash) & " which simply prints as " & StringTrimLeft($bHash, 2) & @LF) Skysnake 1 This wonderful site allows debugging and testing regular expressions (many flavors available). I haven't work with hashing much before.
