dont want it running all the time

Recommended Posts

Its working fine.
I put in a 5 sec pause using the 'sleep' instruction, and its working ok now.
But its doing it twice. I dont really mind, its ok, its just odd. I dont see
any reason why it would do it twice, i will check the startup folder again.

I must thank you all for your help and encouragement for this piece of script.
It might seem like small beer to you, but getting this thing to behave is a
big deal to me.

Regards to you all, John :)

What is the actual script you ended up with? Maybe there's a problem.

Chugging barrels of whiskey is probably unwise if small beer is all you need. All good mate.

Here is a pic.

It doesnt seem to do it twice any more,

but im not sure if it does or not.

as a program or script its very small maybe not even a kilobyte and i dont mind if it runs twice, it does the job and i feel SO MUCH better, now that i come back to the machine with a cup of tea, and its all ready to go.

Well nearly,

i have that annoying message that defender is turned off, which i already know. i think i will go into CMD .com and simply add .old suffix to MSASCUI  ( or whatever it is in there)

Cheers, John :)

Hi SadBunny,

Yes, i think i did something like that, i vaguely remember putting a shortcut in somewhere, which i have since cleared out, that may have been in the startup folder, i tried lots of things before settling on a short delay which certainly worked.

As you said there may be something in the graphics or display mechanism which has to initialise  before the special function keyboard keys are recognised. I am pretty sure its only running once now.

Several startup folders? I only ever found one, does win7 have one for each user or something.

Regards, John :)

Yes there should be. One for every specific user and one general one that is included for every user. Grabbing from Google:

Quote

Your personal startup folder should be C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.

The All Users startup folder should be C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.
