Such solutions should still should be provided because it's asking too much to expect someone to spend months (or years) solving a problem which requires a working solution within a few days. I do the same as you and @BrewManNH , and I'm quite happy to tweak UDF functions to suit my own purposes - especially if I can get a slow function to run several times faster (which sometimes happens).
