Anytime you open a thread on this forum you invite anyone and everyone with an opinion to weigh in, that is how a forum works. Had you wanted to speak to Jon directly you would have sent a PM and waited for his response.

I already mentioned the reason why did I not PM Jon, I wanted to do this in public so that freenode staff can see it.

So IRC is the 'safe space' for folks to be sheltered from my abrasive tone?  And if I show up there and tell them their script smells of elderberrys?  Or if my next script watches that channel and reposts everything here?

My first questions here would have you take me for a simpleton, so would that last question. I dont need it hidden from the world or to exist only temporarily so that I can pretend I only make intelligent queries.  Is that a real thing that other people need these days, I would suggest that is one step beyond coddling , damn near cupping.

Was response to willichans points for IRC, one of which was that a person would not have the shame of having a question live forever and be responded to by the masses.  I may have misunderstood his point, that happens.

Sure you can use IRC to transfer/share files, it was where I got my first illegal downloaded film.

But you needed to wait until it was your turn, and all the questions just came up, if you answered correctly, it knew it. Must have been a bot of some sort.

I think for downloads, you hade to type fserve_name_of_file or something like that.

Well, freenode is not made for sharing illegal stuff... So the answer is No. All things which happen in freenode are 100% LEGAL.
