Sense key presses in specific order without GUI

Is there a way to sense key presses in a specific order?

If, for example, I wanted to make my script sense ABC, but not AGBDEC, is there an easy way to do this? (Preferably without 3rd party software)

Why does your script need to sense keys in a specific order? What you're asking about is pretty much a keylogger and you won't get any help with writing one of those from this forum.

I understand why you might see this as a key logger, but a key logger would write to a file the keys pressed. I only want to sense a specific sequence, EG: abc triggers true, f or t or abec triggers false

What you're still asking about is monitoring and recording key presses by whomever has the script running on their computer. It's so close to a keylogger that if you researched how to write one you would find the solution to your problem quite easily.

You will not get any help with a script like this.

What I want(in conjunction with another program), is for me to be able to control the brightness of my wireless light bulb by typing a 'password' (eg. 1234) followed by the brightness on a scale of 0-9, using the keys 0-9.
