JSON, overkill? Tell that to a million web developers.

If there was a native function for storing JSON in AutoIt, then I dare say people would use it.

Anyway, I'm not an AutoIt developer anymore, so my knowledge of AutoIt is somewhat cloudy.

A million web developers are not developing desktop applications.

Windows Apps? You develop in C#, are you telling me you use INI for C# apps?

as you may guess, the long-standing limitations of the ini specification (32kb limit, no unicode support, no support for extended path length) already triggered the AutoIt community to just such an idea. see here and here for example.

but by all means, do feel free to give it your best shot!

INI files don't have the same limits as they had back in Win 95 days, and last time I looked (which is all the time), I'd say most programs still use INI files, even Windows still and Linux .... despite rubbish about the Registry.

XML has its flaws just like INi files.

Try manually adjusting an XML file compared to an INI entry, and it is easy to see why many programmers still use INI.

A few tried to kill off the INI file about 15 years ago, but they failed miserably, as they are still going, stronger than ever, because they are simple and quick.

Of course, many disguise the extension, to pretend they are not using an INI scenario.

Registry, XML, INI, etc all have their place in the ongoing computer pantheon.

Make sure brain is in gear before opening mouth!
