If I look up something on google I'll often find the answer there. But I've never felt the need to join - it's rare that you can't find an answer about a popular language just by looking these days.

The point of rank by vote is that the best answer / comment should always be the first people stumble upon. Googlers will take the first solution if it works, no matter how bad/good it is. Read more about the phylosophy here: http://stackoverflow.com/help/why-vote

I don't see a need for both a like and an upvote. Let's pick one or the other.

I see a useful to have this both feature

Like is emotional - as we are comunity == live people - we need this.

Vote is rational - showing you , which one was useful a little and wihch one was best answer == resolving @OP question.

You assume there is an option to turn off downvotes. There isn't I'm afraid. So that's two bugs with it so far. You can't remove your vote and you can't prevent downvotes.

Earlier today it would not allow me to down vote, only up vote was allowed, got the ghostbusters no entry symbol.

@minx Oh :>, I think I mis-understood whole concept of up & down vote system. I think its a great way to select a best answer, instead of OP having to choose it like in the previous forum :D

Btw, to have some more chat rooms like Coding or "Just wanna talk to somebody" would make sense otherwise the entries will be mixed up.

How about a IRC server dedicated to AutoIt? ;)

There are multiple ones over at afterwork, namely #autoit, but I see no point in an IRC if the SB stays.

When I push the "Like" button then I like members for his contribution, and this is for me emotional as then button name "Like"
When some code is useful for me then I like this member as he help me. 

But in fact upon reflection I can say: This functionality may be misleading.
Especially when someone will have the highest rating, and after a month, someone else will give a more complete answer. You can in fact expect to be rare situation when the other person get a larger rating.
So in the future, those seeking the best answers will be misdirected.

EDIT:

In conclusion: my opinion is: about which is the best answer should state the one who asked the initial question.

Well, the accepted answer always beats the community answer, a feature many many people dislike about the current stackoverflow.

Also, yes if a better answer is posted it will beat the older answer. If the thread (only questions) is older than x months, it should be locked for good.

What feature have IPS Chat ?

  • Can it be managed by mod ?
  • Who can chat ?
  • Can few members chat toogether in a private rooms ? I see there is private Chat but I can not see an option to join other members.

 

I just wondering what if there be an important disscusion and 100 members be chating at the same moment, who can read so fast ?
On the other hand, if the discussion will be important it should be as part of the forum, and not as part of the chat. Because chat will not be saved for posterity.

All of this solves a problem that does not exist in 99% of the threads here.  It mainly serves to satisfy ego, as does most all the other badging/rep bs on SO.  

Maybe you could make a 'like' store where I could trade them in for cool autoit merchandise, or even better it could keep being the official forum with a clean interface and leave the gimmicks aside.
