topten
I have a list of words: Black, Blue, Red, Brown, YellowI need each time to generate a new list in a random order Blue, Brown, Yellow, Red, Black and another time it should be generated in a different way Brown, Yellow, Red, Blue, Black. What is the best way to achieve it?
topten
I have found this function thoughFunc _GenerateRandomNumbers($iGenerateNums, $iMaxEachNum, $iMinEachNum=0) If $iGenerateNums > ($iMaxEachNum - $iMinEachNum) + 1 Then Return SetError(1, 0, 0) Local $aRandom[$iGenerateNums] For $i = 0 To $iGenerateNums-1 While 1 $aRandom[$i] = Random($iMinEachNum, $iMaxEachNum, 1) For $j = 0 To $iGenerateNums-1 If $j = $i Then ContinueLoop If $aRandom[$j] = $aRandom[$i] Then ContinueLoop 2 Next ExitLoop WEnd Next Return $aRandom EndFunc
jchd
Do you want a random order at every invokation of the function (which may give a previously provided result) or a random order with guarantee that the new result hasn't already appeared? Is your list an array and do you expect an array as result?Possible functions to use: _ArrayShuffle(), _ArrayCombinations(), _ArrayPermute() This wonderful site allows debugging and testing regular expressions (many flavors available). Moderators Melba23 Posted June 17, 2015 Moderators Share Posted June 17, 2015 topten,Put the items into an array and use _ArrayShuffle:#include <Array.au3> Global $aArray_Base[5] = ["Black", "Blue", "Red", "Brown", "Yellow"] While 1 $aArray = $aArray_Base _ArrayShuffle($aArray) _ArrayDisplay($aArray, "Shuffled", Default, 8) WEndM23 232showtime 1 Any of my own code posted anywhere on the forum is available for use by others without any restriction of any kind Open spoiler to see my UDFs: Spoiler ArrayMultiColSort ---- Sort arrays on multiple columnsChooseFileFolder ---- Single and multiple selections from specified path treeview listingDate_Time_Convert -- Easily convert date/time formats, including the language usedExtMsgBox --------- A highly customisable replacement for MsgBoxGUIExtender -------- Extend and retract multiple sections within a GUIGUIFrame ---------- Subdivide GUIs into many adjustable framesGUIListViewEx ------- Insert, delete, move, drag, sort, edit and colour ListView itemsGUITreeViewEx ------ Check/clear parent and child checkboxes in a TreeViewMarquee ----------- Scrolling tickertape GUIsNoFocusLines ------- Remove the dotted focus lines from buttons, sliders, radios and checkboxesNotify ------------- Small notifications on the edge of the displayScrollbars ----------Automatically sized scrollbars with a single commandStringSize ---------- Automatically size controls to fit textToast -------------- Small GUIs which pop out of the notification area
jchd
Another possibility as explained in my previous post: randomly select one of the N! permutations of the N elements. M23 code may and will displayed previously given results when run forever, while this code is sure to never repeat (but obviously has finite number of permutations to display).Local $aArray_Base = ["Black", "Blue", "Red", "Brown", "Yellow"] ;~ While 1 ;~ $aArray = $aArray_Base ;~ _ArrayShuffle($aArray) ;~ _ArrayDisplay($aArray, "Shuffled", Default, 8) ;~ WEnd Local $aPerm = _ArrayPermute($aArray_Base, '|') MsgBox(0, "", "Displaying the " & $aPerm[0] & " permutations randomly") _ArrayDelete($aPerm, 0) _ArrayShuffle($aPerm) For $s In $aPerm _ArrayDisplay(StringSplit($s, '|', 2), "Next permutation", Default, 8) Next This wonderful site allows debugging and testing regular expressions (many flavors available).
