c.haslam
I think that _ProcessExitCode() should be included in UDFs > Process Management. It is already part of AutoIt3Wrapper.au3. Is there a way of having this happen? c.haslam
Thank you both. I think that my proposed UDFs are generally beneficial. They would provide a user with the ability to get the exit code of a process that is Run(). As I expect you are aware, RunWait() returns an exit code, but Run() does not.A UDF I am thinking of submitting is _ProcessGetExitCode(). It would be extracted from _ProcessExitCode() found in Autoit3Wrapper.au3.I write extracted because _ProcessExitCode() has 2 usages:It gets the handle of a process from a PIDIt gets the exit code of a process given a PID and a handle to the process. To me, a function with two usages is bad programming practice. So I also propose _ProcessGetHandle(). This would also be extracted from _ProcessExitCode().Thoughts? c.haslam
Thank you for telling me where they are in the UDFs. I would have expected them to be in the Process Management group of UDFs, i.e. the group directly under User Defined Functions Reference. To me, it's not that there are two many UDFs, but that they could have been organized a little better. I knew about two Process Management groups:In Functions ReferenceIn User Defined Functions Referenceand now I know about a third group:In User Defined Functions Reference > WinAPIEx Reference > Process & Synchronization ReferenceAlso, to me, UDFs should be independent of Windows version (unless this is not possible, and is noted in Remarks). From the example for _WinAPI_GetExitCodeProcess() I see that this function is Windows-version dependent! c.haslam
Many library functions (including UDFs) are Windows-version dependent, under the hood, but this dependency is not seen by the user. Per the example, to use _WinAPI_GetExitCodeProcess(), the user has to be concerned about the version of Windows. Version independence could perhaps be achieved by adding a _Process_GetHandle() function (or _WinAPI_GetHandleProcess() function). This function might contain a line like:Local $hProcess = DllCall('kernel32.dll', 'handle', 'OpenProcess', 'dword', __Iif($__WINVER < 0x0600, $PROCESS_QUERY_INFORMATION, $PROCESS_QUERY_LIMITED_INFORMATION), 'bool', 0, 'dword', $iPID)beforeLocal $aRet = DllCall('kernel32.dll', 'bool', 'GetExitCodeProcess', 'handle', $hProcess, 'dword*', 0)thus allowing the user to avoid version dependence. Other functions in WinAPIProc.au3 have the above line. c.haslam
Earlier in this thread, AdamUL gave me some valuable information: _WinAPI_GetExitCodeProcess() is part of what I need. Thank you.As an exercise, I tried using the Search in Autoit Help so whether I could have found _WinAPI_GetExitCodeProcess() myself: I searched for exitcode. (I had probably done this search a week or so ago.) None of the 6 matches was _WinAPI_GetExitCodeProcess(). So the search was not helpful. If I were an experienced Windows programmer, I would know that Microsoft calls it GetExitCodeProcess, but I should not need to be a guru in Windows. I code in AutoIt partly because it gives me easy access to functionality that I would otherwise have to spend many hours discovering.
