RegEx help with extracting file name from file name w/ ext (File.txt ---> File)

$sFile = "AutoIt.chm"

$sFile = StringRegExpReplace($sFile, "<Regex Here>", "<Regex Here>")

; I need "AutoIt" as output

I suck at RegEx

@boththose That is one messed up code, here is my version:

$sFile = "C:\Program Files (x86)\AutoIt3\AutoIt.chm"

MsgBox(0, "RegEx is awesome", StringRegExpReplace($sFile, "^.*\\|\..*$", ""))

it is really just two things crammed into one.

1) reverse the entire string, so that when i split on the "\" position [0] will be the file name with extension, backwards

2) reverse that backwards file name so that when i split on "." the file name minus extension is in position [0]

First things first, if you don't know how to do it with native string functions, then regular expressions are going to be very difficult for you.

Local $sFilePath = "C:\Program Files (x86)\AutoIt3\AutoIt.chm"
Local $iPos = StringInStr($sFilePath, ".", Default, -1)
If $iPos > 0 Then ; Checking a . exists
    Local $sFileNameOnly = StringLeft($sFilePath, $iPos - 1)

    $iPos = StringInStr($sFileNameOnly, "\", Default, -1)
    If $iPos > 0 Then ; Checking a \ exists
        $sFileNameOnly = StringTrimLeft($sFileNameOnly, $iPos) ; Trim up until the last \
    EndIf

    ConsoleWrite($sFileNameOnly & @CRLF)
EndIf

More efficient and simple? Seems a little contradictory to what you posted above. I personally wouldn't call them simple nor would I suggest they are always efficient. Native string functions actually fair better on some tests I have conducted. It's just knowing which one to use and when.

​It depends.... RegEx are useful when verifying format in stings, Native string function are better most of the time (Ex. If no. of characters is constant in file extensions then I would simply use StringTrimRight)

​That's true and in new versions it uses regular expressions to parse the file path.
