At its Build developer conference, Microsoft today announced the launch of Visual Studio Code, a lightweight cross-platform code editor for writing modern web and cloud applications that will run on OS X, Linux and Windows. The application is still officially in preview, but you can now download it here (if this link isn’t live yet, give it a few more minutes and then try again).

This is really interesting, I love the direction Microsoft are moving in.

Couldn't agree more @James. I looked at the TOS, but couldn't work out if this "tool" can be used in an enterprise environment for FREE?

That is awesome. Even the most basic installation of Visual Studio is way too big for what it really is - downloadwise. Now if they just improve their Integration to GH, SF or GC ...

I have been using it this evening and created myself a little module in the process. One thing I noticed is if I initialise a variable with a type, it automatically checks if I make a stupid mistake of assigning another datatype to the variable. Some people might hate this, but I think that's brilliant, especially as I don't need to add TS annotations.

age = ""; // Displays an error

I always used Notepad++ until I used Sublime for first time, the experience was much better, and I thought I will never switch to any other editor. But now, when I tried VSCode, I have the same feeling as I had when tried Sublime for the first time.
