Ternary Operator not working in some ways

I never knew this was possible (maybe there is some missing syntax in your example). I can't test anything right now unfortunately.

... Now I have to write the same code assigning the value to a variable.

 

I think this may be a misunderstanding: you do not have to assign the result of a ternary expression to a variable. The expression can also form part of another argument.

Prior to v3.3.10.0 there was no ternary operator in AutoIt. I wrote the first v3.3.10.0 Help file entry for the ternary operator. Then as now, it has always required the form:

Exp_1 ? Exp_if_True : Exp_if_False

with the suggestion that all 3 should be enclosed in parentheses.

as it clearly mentioned readability being an important factor when substituting an if...else for ternary.

 

 

and I read that (or I magically posted quotes from an article I didnt read).  I was more just confirming that your objection was purely cosmetic, in case there were some performance issues that were unique to AutoIt -vs- the discussions linked.

The OP could have constructed the WinMove with the ternary expression as part of the function like...

winmove($gui010,'', ( $aPOS[0] = 20 ? 300 : '' ), ( $aPOS[1] = 20 ? 500 : '' ) ) ; <---  could have been done as part of the expression

    switch guigetmsg()
        case $gui_event_close
            Exit
    EndSwitch
WEnd

However, I recommended what I did based on his current construct, perhaps I should have also pointed out this option.

boththose - besides the example above, Whether they are good or not (may be a matter of opinion), there are a couple of examples in my >Fraction UDF. The following line of code is taken from FractionApproximate(). The UDF is still not quite finished.
