I'm curious what the progress is with 'Maps'?  I assume there's discussions in the MVP section about whether or not the dot-name and function call syntax will be final features, but the rest of us don't know whats really to become of it.  In essence, as long as there's no discussion in this forum section, the exposure and testing for this feature is limited to your lineup of MVP's. I'm certainly not putting effort into testing it or giving feedback if you're leaving us in the dark.

I'd suggest that perhaps someone create a 'Map' discussion thread in this forum before this moves to a release-ready state so that more 'regular' users can experiment with it and report bugs.

Ascend4nt,

You may be surprised to learn that you know as much about Maps as anyone else - and so not testing now just prevents Jon from fixing any problems that you come across. We are indeed looking at a Map UDF, but that will be for a later release as we assumed (correctly it seems) that nearly everyone would have the same response and not test the new functionality until 3.3.14.0 was out, so there seemed little point in finalising it until we got some feedback. :(>

All the more reason to create a thread devoted to it!

Xerix, if you look in the latest Beta's help file, under Language Reference>>Variables, there is a decent section about the relationship between Maps and Arrays, and the situational benefits of each.

Just use the Beta threads that already exist. :)

So we can wind up with fragmented bits and pieces of information all over a multitude of threads?  Great example, this will be asked again:

It's perhaps because my langage is not english but i don't understand what is MAPS.

Is someone can explain me what is it ?

...

By the way, I just now saw where Maps description is in the Help file, I had originally looked at 'datatypes'.. which seemed a more logical place for it to me (or at least a mention of it)

Ascend4nt,

Ask away. The current sum of knowledge about maps is always in the latest Beta Help file - you need the Beta release to use maps, so it seems a sensible place to collect it. That is why I said that you knew as much as anyone else. :)

I am currently rewriting the "Datatypes & Variables" pages - we actually manage to notice some of these things ourselves. ;)

I need to make a feature request to invision - we need to get some way to allow people to start threads. ;)

Cute.  I could obviously start a thread on a topic, but if its just a 'durr, there's something new, I wonder if and how it can be used', then its something more suited for General Help and Support.

What I was thinking was something along the lines of a developer or MVP pointing out a new feature that (a given developer) might want to hear feedback on, by firstly introducing the new feature, the proposed syntax for initialization and use, info on what might or might not change, etc. And then the discussion could follow based on what was introduced at the beginning of the thread.

But, ah well.  Kudos to JohnOne for stepping up, even if it is that 'um, whats this new feature' type of thread
