About new addition - Regular expression caching - may i have small reproducer where this feature get max effect ?

as a side note - what about Regular expression compiling/precompiling?

The caching is "expression compiling". Jon keeps a record of the compiled expression in AutoIt and does a lookup of the expression string to see if a compiled version exists.

Example request. jchd has a good one as well, but it's not my place to post it in the public forum.

#AutoIt3Wrapper_UseX64=N
#include <StringConstants.au3>
#include <WinAPIShPath.au3>

Local Const $ITERATION = 500000
Local $sFileName = @ScriptFullPath
Local $hTimer = 0

Sleep(100)

$hTimer = TimerInit()
For $i = 0 To $ITERATION
    StringRegExp($sFileName, '(?:\.\w{3,}$)', '') ; Trim the extension. (guinness' way).
Next
ConsoleWrite(TimerDiff($hTimer) & @CRLF)

Feel free to post what you want, that I vomitted it or no.

Beware my timings: they are pretty random and I don't have the faintest idea why, so run stuff on a more reliable PC.

But then there is a need to free stored data and the task of managing them is a new burden, in case of long running applications building SREs on the fly.

Jon,

Could I point you to ticket #2839 - does not look too difficult to fix. ;)

As I pointed out in the GH & S thread, I would not call this fixed. I am still waiting on an example script in that thread showing the "working" behavior; this reproducer shows the same broken behavior that was originally reported.

Cannot copy text out of the embedded page, nor the URL if you open the properties dialog for the page.

#include <GUIConstantsEx.au3>
#include <IE.au3>
#include <WindowsConstants.au3>

Local $oIE = _IECreateEmbedded()
    $myGUI = GUICreate("Test IE Embedded", 1000, 1000, Default, Default)
    GUICtrlCreateObj($oIE, 10, 10, 980, 980)
    GUISetState()

_IENavigate($oIE, "http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WallOfText")

While 1
    Switch GUIGetMsg()
        Case $GUI_EVENT_CLOSE
            Exit
    EndSwitch
WEnd

Edit: Just checked the new BETA (3.3.13.17), and confirmed the issue persists. I see no reason to call it resolved just yet.

I don't think this is related to AutoIt, but to IE and embedded controls in general.  It might be dependent on the IE version, or the O/S itself, but other (non-AutoIt) executables that embed an IE control fail to work with copying text for me as well.

I agree, certainly. Just pointing out that it is an erroneous assessment to say that the latest BETA fixed the issue. If the OP has noticed something that was not working but now is, I would like to see a reproducer.

Except it works in 3.3.8.1 and doesn't in 3.3.12.1 or any beta version. You can't highlight text inside an embedded IE and copy it in the latest release, while in 3.3.8.1 you can.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

Just tried it on 3.3.8.1 on Win7 x64 with IE11, didn't work. (tried both IE7 and IE11 modes)  I'm betting there was more that changed on user's the test system than the AutoIt version.

*Edit: just retested and realized I was using a different version!

I tried it using 3.3.8.1 on 2 Windows 7 machines and I was able to copy text from an embedded IE. I was not able to do it using the same 2 machines and 3.3.12.1.

I went to http://whatismybrowser.com and it identified both instances were using IE11 in IE7 compatibility view. The ONLY difference between them is the version of AutoIt being used.

BTW, I just used the help file example for _IECreateEmbedded for the tests.

Sorry for not replying earlier.

It is odd - I am trying to produce a reproducer script.... but am failing miserably ...

My main application has started working.

I use the embedded IE object to display reports from whatever I am looking at.

It was great to be able to "cut and past" information of interest from the GUI.. but 3.3.12.0 broke the "cut and paste" functionality.

I was aware of the 'bug report" - I was trying to be patient waiting for a fix.

I have tried several betas - but the bug remained.

Then with 3.3.13.16 - my embedded IE started to work again !! - I  thought that it had just been fixed -  but the bug report had not been updated.

However - when I pull out the relevent bits of code to produce a demo script - .. it fails  : .  All very odd - I will look futher to see what I need to do to get the demo script working.

I am sorry I do not have any good news.

I would really like this functionality to be fully working - my team are a bit frustrated by this loss of functionality. (I have put in some work-a-rounds - but it is not a clean as the "cut and paste" functionaliy .....)

Ah, sorry.  I just retested now, and I can reproduce the issue with 3.3.8.1.  I previously used the wrong AutoIt folder for testing that script on >_<

Anyway, the new beta 3.3.13.17 seems to mostly work.... but I see a difference in data that is copied - there's a lot more whitespace now..

What a weird bug. I can't even imagine what could possibly cause that. The only thing I can try is to roll back the source to 3.3.8.1 and then skip 100 revisions and recompile until it stops working.

Found the revision it seems to happen in. The changelog is "Changed: The way COM initialization handled. Removed: g_bCOMOleInitialize global variable.".  The changes all look completely innocent though :/

The COM initialisation changed from using OleInitialize() to CoInitialize().  The docs on the OleInitialize version have these remarks hidden away:

Applications that use the following functionality must call OleInitialize before calling any other function in the COM library:

  • Clipboard
  • Drag and Drop
  • Object linking and embedding (OLE)
  • In-place activation

I guess that explains it.  I changed it back to OleInitialize and the script seems to work.
