Anyone know how to build/create/compile AutoIT program into .dll instead of a .exe?

I am attempting to use AutoIT for the Screens in my Cobol programs.  I need to pass values between the Cobol program and AutoIT .dll and have values passed back (from the screen).

Any thoughts (besides COBOL - WTF??)

What you are looking for, you'll find when searching for "interprocess communication".

There are a lot of methods, and which is best suited to your task depends on cobol and what it lets you do.

For example, there are all kinds of AutoIt scripts for SciTE on the forum that work by sending messages to a hidden window, WM_COPYDATA I think is the message used.

AutoIt's program can't be compiled to DLL because AutoIt is interpreted language and it doesn't have native compiler.

This isn't true.

AutoIt code could be "compiled" into dll, but doing so wouldn't make much sense because such dlls would suffer from all the defects current interpreter does (emphasis is on speed here). Serious developer wouldn't have use for them.

It has been done, and the results were just as expected - bad.

Btw, to be more correct it would be better to say that AutoIt is just language. Execution technique is matter of implementation.

Yes, check the help file for $CmdLine and $CmdLineRaw.

 

This will allow me to pass data TO the AutoIT program... one 1/2 of the puzzle... the other 1/2 is to return values back.  The documentation does not make reference, that I could find, to that?
