GUICtrlSetData

Recommended Posts

After reading some of the help files and posts on the forum, I am a little confused about GUICtrlSetData.

In the help file forGUICtrlSetData  :

For ListView, ListViewItem controls :
To update a specific column just forget about the others ie "||update" to update 3rd column.
If "update" is empty the column/subitem will be erased. For example "|" will erase the second column/subitem, "" will erase the first.

So using GUICtrlSetData., can I literally update a specific column value - say row 3 column 5 for example?? Or is it more complex than that?

The easiest way to find out would be to do it and see exactly what happens, it's not like it's the nuclear launch codes in there or anything play around with things to see how they work.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

Stoex,

How long would it be to write a script to test rather then asking someone else to do it for you? I bet it would be shorter than the time it takes to get an answer! ;)

And it was - because I did it for you! :P

#include <GUIConstantsEx.au3>

Global $aRow[4]

$hGUI = GUICreate("Test", 500, 500)

$cLV = GUICtrlCreateListView("Col 0|Col 1|Col 2|Col 3", 10, 10, 380, 200)
For $i = 0 To 3
    $aRow[$i] = GUICtrlCreateListViewItem("Item 0" & $i & "|Item 1" & $i & "|Item 2" & $i & "|Item 3" & $i, $cLV)
Next

$cButton_0 = GUICtrlCreateButton("Amend 0", 10, 220, 80, 30)
$cButton_1 = GUICtrlCreateButton("Amend 1", 110, 220, 80, 30)
$cButton_2 = GUICtrlCreateButton("Amend 2", 220, 220, 80, 30)
$cButton_3 = GUICtrlCreateButton("Amend 3", 330, 220, 80, 30)

GUISetState()

While 1
    Switch GUIGetMsg()
        Case $GUI_EVENT_CLOSE
            Exit
        Case $cButton_0
            GUICtrlSetData($aRow[0], "fred_0")
        Case $cButton_1
            GUICtrlSetData($aRow[1], "|fred_1")
        Case $cButton_2
            GUICtrlSetData($aRow[2], "||fred_2")
        Case $cButton_3
            GUICtrlSetData($aRow[3], "|||fred_3")
    EndSwitch
WEnd

Nowhere in my post did I ask anyone to write it for me.  I was asking a general question to ascertain which path I perhaps should be pursuing.  An answer like, "it cannot be done" or "it takes an array" or some other words of enlightenment would  have been appreciated.  I do like to learn to do things for myself and I try to mitigate useless efforts especially when I have limited knowledge of a subject matter.  So given the responses of limited usefulness, the thread is pretty much closed.

Stoex,

to ascertain which path I perhaps should be pursuing

The path indicated by the Help file - which you quoted in the OP. What other path would there be? :huh:

given the responses of limited usefulness

So you did not look in the spoiler in my post then. :whistle:
