orbs Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 unfortunate fact: if you FileOpen() a file for read or write, the return code may well be a valid handle even if the file is not readable or writable (no permissions, encrypted, locked, etc.) in this case, you get an error only when you go on to the actual FileRead/FileWrite operation. so, i'm testing if a file is actually readable like this: Func _FileReadable($sFile) If FileGetSize($sFile)=0 Then Return True Local $hFile = FileOpen($sFile, 16) FileRead($hFile, 1) Local $nError = @error FileClose($hFile) Return ($nError = 0) EndFunc now i'm trying to determine if a file is writable, but doing it in a similar method - i.e. add a character, and remove it - implies changing the file (timestamp and audit trail), which i'm reluctant about. can someone suggest a reliable, non-intrusive method to check if a file is writable? thanks for any hints.
