Anyone for hire?

Recommended Posts

I am looking for someone to help program scripts for me - I don't quite know what I'm doing.  Ultimately I am looking to create scripts to harvest reviews from sites like Yelp, Foursquare, Google Reviews, Trip Advisor.

drjdn,

Welcome to the AutoIt forums. :)

Please note that we do not write code on request or hire - for that I suggest sites like here. However, if you want to learn how to code in AutoIt for yourself then you are in the right place. :)

Unfortunately your post was not - I have moved it for you, but would ask you to take more care in future. ;)

Harvesting data from sites may not be legit: each site has its own set of rules and by default you'd have to obtain permission to "harvest". I doubt the sites you mention would agree.

This wonderful site allows debugging and testing regular expressions (many flavors available). An absolute must have in your bookmarks.
Another excellent RegExp tutorial. Don't forget downloading your copy of up-to-date pcretest.exe and pcregrep.exe here

PCRE v8.33 regexp documentation latest available release and currently implemented in AutoIt beta.

SQLitespeed is another feature-rich premier SQLite manager (includes import/export). Well worth a try.
SQLite Expert (freeware Personal Edition or payware Pro version) is a very useful SQLite database manager.
An excellent eBook covering almost every aspect of SQLite3: a must-read for anyone doing serious work.
SQL tutorial (covers "generic" SQL, but most of it applies to SQLite as well)
A work-in-progress SQLite3 tutorial. Don't miss other LxyzTHW pages!

hehe, a funny example is GOOGLE, I was at some point scraping height data from google earth, and was reading around in Google Groups where I saw a Google employee saying to another user wanting the same....

"You should not scrape data !!!"

...which made me laugh out loud, as that was the exact way Google themselfes became Billionaires, by scraping other peoples data.

Meaning it's OK when they do it themselfes and become billionaries, but when others want to scrape Google data, then all Hell is loose. :)

Some guy's script + some other guy's script = my script!

If you have a website and Google "scrape" its data without your permission, feel free to sue them, we follow our own rules and the rules of others, what others do is their own concern :)
