Stoex Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Guess this might be the right forum (if not, sorry)... Have been reading the help files for FileOpenDialog FileOpen FileRead FileSelectFolder And using the helpfile examples I can follow what they are doing BUT they stop short of going to the next step. My question is (so newbie) how do I get any selected file to open just like I would in Explorer? If my code (it works) brings up a dialog box, I select a folder, then a file - how do I get it to open? For instance if doing the above I selected C:DocumentABCmyFile.doc - what should I be doing to have it open as it would if I had just opened Explorer, did all the folder/file clicking and getting to myFile.doc ? Can't hard code it into any program, as choice of files would be a variable. Part of the problem with the help file, is I don't always know what I should BE looking for, so any direction would be helpful as I learn this stuff. Thanks

Stoex Posted May 24, 2014 Author Posted May 24, 2014 Thanks - that gets me going in the right direction.
Stoex Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 M23, Related questions... What would be the purpose of FileSelectFolder, if you can use FileOpenDialog? Using FileOpenDialog, you can change folders and then get to files. Is FileSelectFolder sort of useless in that regard? What am I missing?
Moderators Melba23 Posted May 25, 2014 Moderators Posted May 25, 2014 Stoex, What would be the purpose of FileSelectFolder, if you can use FileOpenDialog? How about, as the name suggests, choosing a folder rather then a file - you often need to define a path rather then a specific file.
