Hello

I'm working on log file parser, file handling/reading is done but clueless about how to parse out specific data (latitude/longitude figures).

Obviously I need to use regular expressions but that stuff seems to go right over my head for the moment

Sample of a line:

2014-03-02 14:12:27 | Current location: Unknown, Lat: 58.88°N, Lon: 94.39°E, Altitude: 105 m
 
I am triying with regex tester at http://regex101.com
 
Q1: what should I use in expression for "Unknown? It may change, have several words for place names, only certainty is "," between it and Lat but location name is not important by itself. What I want is xx.xx numbers right side of a Lat: and Lon: and capture the numbers.

This works for me:

#include <Array.au3>

$sString = "2014-03-02 14:12:27 | Current location: Unknown, Lat: 58.88°N, Lon: 94.39°E, Altitude: 105 m"

$aRet = StringRegExp($sString, ":\s(\d{1,3}\.\d{1,2}°[NSEW])", 3)

_ArrayDisplay($aRet, "Lat/Long", Default, 8)
SRE decode:

:\s        - Look for a colon followed by a space
(          - Start capture of anythig that matches:
\d{1,3}    - 1-3 digits (1 - 180)
\.         - a decimal
\d{1,2}    - 1-2 digits (0 To 59)
°[NSEW]    - ° followed by one of NSEW
)          - Stop capture

3          - Return an array of matches
All clear? :)

If you need the location as well then this should work:

$sString = "2014-03-02 14:12:27 | Current location: Unknown, Lat: 58.88°N, Lon: 94.39°E, Altitude: 105 m"

$sExtract = StringRegExpReplace($sString, ".*:\s(.*),\s.*:\s(\d{1,3}\.\d{1,2}°[NS]).*:\s(\d{1,3}\.\d{1,2}°[EW]),.*", "$1: $2 $3")

ConsoleWrite($sExtract & @CRLF)

I'm really pleased to see more and more SRE-proficient or even only interessed/intrigued/curious users. D*ck size competition is not in the way.

This wonderful site allows debugging and testing regular expressions (many flavors available). An absolute must have in your bookmarks.
Another excellent RegExp tutorial. Don't forget downloading your copy of up-to-date pcretest.exe and pcregrep.exe here

PCRE v8.33 regexp documentation latest available release and currently implemented in AutoIt beta.

SQLitespeed is another feature-rich premier SQLite manager (includes import/export). Well worth a try.
SQLite Expert (freeware Personal Edition or payware Pro version) is a very useful SQLite database manager.
An excellent eBook covering almost every aspect of SQLite3: a must-read for anyone doing serious work.
SQL tutorial (covers "generic" SQL, but most of it applies to SQLite as well)
