OutlookEX UDF - Help & Support (III)

This autocomplete feature has a separate name cache, that is independant from the address books and contacts.

Every recipient you've sent a mail to (and which can't be found in your contacts) is stored in this cache.

Is it possible to delete the entry for your SMTP mail address when it shows up in this dropdown by clicking on the "X" in the right corner?

If yes, could you then try the script again?

Then I'm soon out of ideas :huh2:

Have you tried to run the script

  • on another computer
  • logged on as another user?

You could run function _OL_AddressListGet.au3 so we get a list of address books used to resolve an address plus the sequence the address books are searched for an address.

If the data gets confidential you could either send me a PM or use "**" to hide the confidential part of the data.

I was able to reproduce the problem :thumbsup:

Created a contact for Jane Doe and set the mail address to jane.doe@company.com

Created a second contact for Jane Doe and set the mail address to john.doe@company.com.

When trying to save the second contact Outlook asked if I wanted to create a second contact for Jane Doe and store both mail addresses in this single contact. When I said no, a second contact was created and now Outlook is unable to resolve the mail address.

I can imagine what is going on.

When resolving an address Outlook creates a recipient object and stores some properties in this object taken from the resolved address entry.

Outlook uses the SMTP address to find Jane Doe matching this SMTP address. This works fine as the SMTP address is unique. Then Outlook grabs the name to retrieve further properties and then runs into a problem because the name (Jane Doe) is not unique.

I have tested high and low.

As soon as there is a second mail address entry with the same name (be it in one or multiple contacts) then Outlook isn't able to resolve the address via COM.

At the moment the only solution seems to be to remove one of the mail addresses from the Jane Doe contact(s).

Could you test the following code and check if send still returns an error?

#include <OutlookEX.au3>
_OL_ErrorNotify(2)
$oOL = _OL_Open()
Global $sSubject = "CRQ Updates Required"
Global $sBody = "<HTML><Body><b>Test</b></body></html>"
Global $sTo = "jane.doe@company.com" ; <== Your recipient goes here
; Create a mail item in the default folder
Local $oItem = _OL_ItemCreate($oOL, $olMailItem, "", "", "Subject=" & $sSubject, "BodyFormat=" & $olFormatHTML, "Importance=" & $olImportanceNormal, "HTMLBody=" & $sBody, "To=" & $sTo)
If @error Then Exit MsgBox(0, "Error ItemCreate", "@error: " & @error + 2000 & ", @extended: " & @extended)
;$oItem.Display()
; Send mail
_OL_ItemSend($oOL, $oItem, Default)
If @error Then Exit MsgBox(0, "Error ItemSend", "@error: " & @error + 6000 & ", @extended: " & @extended)
_OL_Close($oOL)

I am trying to disable some rules in Outlook, and I am not having much success. I have the following code, that allows me to see the Rule Name, and then decide if I want to disable the rule or not.

I am getting a COM error, line 10163 (error. Variable must be of type "object") if I use index 1, and if I use index 0, I do not see any change to the rule. As per the parameters,

from the notes, it appears that the index 1 needs to be changed

Return Value

Success: two-dimensional one based array with the following information:
    0 - Rule object
    1 - Boolean value that determines if the rule is to be applied
    2 - Integer indicating the order of execution of the rule in the rules collection
    3 - Boolean value that indicates if the rule executes as a client-side rule
    4 - String representing the name of the rule
    5 - Constant from the OlRuleType enumeration indicating if the rule applies to messages being sent or received

Here is the code: -->> taken from this example.

#AutoIt3Wrapper_AU3Check_Parameters= -d -w 1 -w 2 -w 3 -w 4 -w 5 -w 6
#AutoIt3Wrapper_AU3Check_Stop_OnWarning=Y
#include "OutlookEX\OutlookEX 1.0.0.0\OutlookEX.au3"

Global $oOutlook = _OL_Open()
If @error <> 0 Then Exit MsgBox(16, "OutlookEX UDF", "Error creating a connection to Outlook. @error = " & @error & ", @extended = " & @extended)

Global $aRules = _OL_RuleGet($oOutlook)
If @error <> 0 Then Exit MsgBox(16, "OutlookEX UDF: _OL_RuleActionGet Example Script", "Error accessing rules. @error = " & @error & ", @extended: " & @extended)

_ArrayDisplay($aRules, 'Rules')

;$aRules = _OL_RuleGet($oOutlook, "*", True)
For $i = 1 to $aRules[0][0]
        If MsgBox(4, 'Disable this rule?', $aRules[$i][4]) = 6 Then $aRules[$i][0].Enabled = False
;If MsgBox(4, 'Disable this rule?', $aRules[$i][4]) = 6 Then $aRules[$i][1].Enabled = False
Next
Global $sStore = $oOutlook.Session.DefaultStore.DisplayName
Global $oRules = $oOutlook.Session.Stores.Item($sStore).GetRules
$oRules.Save()

_OL_Close($oOutlook)

Sorry, can only create the script in VM, and run it on the main PC. So do not have that ability. Is there a work around?

Edit:

The error only occurs if I change the second index of the array to [$i][1]

It has to be [$i][0] because the rule object is stored in column 0 of every row in the returned array.

So from my code (and by my code, I really mean yours lol), can you determine why the rule is not changing?

Edit:

And getting back to output, is there a way to have that output appear, outside of the editor?

As I noted in the post you linked to the posted code is/was untested.

I think this code doesn't work because the rules get overwritten by

$oRules = $oOL.Session.Stores.Item($sStore).GetRules

Could you give this code a try?

#AutoIt3Wrapper_AU3Check_Parameters= -d -w 1 -w 2 -w 3 -w 4 -w 5 -w 6
#AutoIt3Wrapper_AU3Check_Stop_OnWarning=Y
#include "OutlookEX\OutlookEX 1.0.0.0\OutlookEX.au3"

Global $oOutlook = _OL_Open()
If @error <> 0 Then Exit MsgBox(16, "OutlookEX UDF", "Error creating a connection to Outlook. @error = " & @error & ", @extended = " & @extended)

Global $aRules = _OL_RuleGet($oOutlook)
If @error <> 0 Then Exit MsgBox(16, "OutlookEX UDF: _OL_RuleActionGet Example Script", "Error accessing rules. @error = " & @error & ", @extended: " & @extended)

_ArrayDisplay($aRules, 'Rules')

For $i = 1 to $aRules[0][0]
    If MsgBox(4, 'Disable this rule?', $aRules[$i][4]) = 6 Then $aRules[$i][0].Enabled = False
Next
Global $oRules = $aRules[1][0].Parent ; Retrieve the rules collection from the first rule
$oRules.Save()
