BrewManNH
Don't use R If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.Give a programmer the correct code and he can do his work for a day. jchd
That's pretty logical. 3.3.8.1 considers @LF as a line break. So the non-capturing group (?:.*R)? matches "line 1" & @CR (matched by .*) and @LF (matched by R). Then the capturing group (.*) matches "line 2" & @CR since dot won't match a newline. The capture replaces what has matched so far, so output is now "line 2" & @CR. The process repeat for subsequent lines and you're left with the output you describe for 3.3.8.1 Now the beta currently considers the unbreakable sequence @CRLF to be a new line. So the non-capturing group (?:.*R)? matches "line 1" (matched by .*) and @CRLF (matched by R). Then the capturing group (.*) matches "line 2" only since dot won't match a newline sequence. The capture replaces what has matched so far, so output is now "line 2" only ... and so on, without any @CRLF left in. jchd
Note that if the pattern is only used to remove the first line, it can be simplified/sped up greatly: capture a complete line (possibly empty) with its line break and perform count=1 replacement with "". Administrators Jon Posted September 11, 2013 Author Administrators Share Posted September 11, 2013 I'll fix the doc accordingly. What's your opinion regarding R and (*BSR_ANYCRLF) vs. the current default (*BSR_UNICODE)? I'll set BSR_ANYCRLF as well. jchd
OK I adjust the doc accordingly. I feel a little guilty for causing you a non-negligible burden with all my requests regarding implementation of PCRE in AutoIt but I sincerely find it was well worth the pain and suffering I inflicted you. Also getting rid of pedestrian UTF8 zigzags is good. Users now have a much more powerful tool in their hands and - I hope - an improved documentation. The next big thing in this area will be implementation of callbacks, the best invention since sliced bread. A completely new PCRE API is being openly discussed in the PCRE-dev list and it will take time before actual release of a stable PRCE v9. Thus it's urgent to postpone looking at callbacks until then This wonderful site allows debugging and testing regular expressions (many flavors available).
