I voted yes, but unless a poll got an overwhelming yes, I don't think it should be considered. The way I see it is there are sometimes many functions used in an example to demonstrate one function,

OK, Melba23 was kind enough to explain that it happens when you post in an editor that is "link aware" e.g. Word for example. I was testing in Notepad2 and SciTE only.

This is the problem I see. It would be a great idea if for not this one flaw which I consider significant enough to really think about this carefully.

@guinness What happens in word is that the links are recognised. If I hover over them, I get the tip I described previously.

@JohnOne Naturally this is the case and I nearly always use the PopUp option to ensure I'm copying the source code only, and not anything else.

I tested in Word and it's the same, so long as you don't use the popup (which isn't always available.)

My next question should be how many use Word to edit code?

I don't use Word to edit code, so this is why the tooltip didn't make sense to me. Now I see what you meant. By the way the popup only appears if the code is 22 lines or more. So you would get the exact same problem.

Edit: Spelling.

Edit 2: I can't really see how this is an "issue", if you copy text from the Internet (with links) and paste as-is, then you get the same result. This "issue" shouldn't influence the benefit this has on the help file.

To explain the problem, the Windows clipboard can hold multiple content types at the same time. Most applications only bother with plaintext, but rich text, HTML, bitmaps, and many others are all valid formats that can exist with the plaintext in the clipboard. Content aware clipboard readers will allow you to pick between multiple formats if the destination accepts them.

You asked for it..... :D

I not in favour of the idea.

 

Firstly and primarily because of the "pasting" problem pointed out above. We should not assume that everyone uses non "link-aware" apps like SciTE or Notepad to edit code - even if the majority probably do.

Secondly, I realise from posts elsewhere that the Help file size will increase - the added functionality is not worth this in my opinion. The Help file has a very good index and search capability - why add links as well?

Thirdly, do we really want to add this much complexity into each and every page of the Help file? I can foresee problems when a simple change somewhere in the future causes the build files (about which everyone complains so much) to fail and produces complete havoc.

A purely personal opinion, of course. ;)

I expect all kinds of weird things happening when a browser renders text. We all have to put up with this quirkiness. Indeed strange results can occur. Much of it is beyond my understanding.

I think it's a bad idea - actually I mean good idea but unfortunately it's flawed.

 
1. I think it is necessary to weigh a percentage. For example, if the benefit is equal to 30% but the disadvantage is 1%, then the first option improves by 29%.

2. Ask yourself how many times have you copied the text of the posting in Word? I would like to know the real figure.

I realise from posts elsewhere that the Help file size will increase

I expected big increase in the help file, but surprisingly it didn't occur. Only 10% of. But it's the same when you write a program, you do not do the size by the reason to harm the usability of

I can foresee problems when a simple change somewhere in the future causes the build files (about which everyone complains so much) to fail and produces complete havoc.

Links are used in TOC, the rules do not change. If there is a failure, it will already be in the TOC

For me, the problem is this: when you copy a piece of code that can click link. But profit is greater. For the beginner it is possible to quickly obtain a description of the function without any additional body movements.
