pandel Posted June 29, 2013 Author Posted June 29, 2013 (edited) ;-) that's exactly what I had in mind. The thing is, if I create a form, I like to have access to every single form control from everywhere. I really don't like this kind of picky "first pass this single control, and then that... oh I forgot one, so i have to rewrite everything, bla bla...". So if I need a new function that accesses my form in some way I don't want to think about what field to pass and what not. Following your suggestions, I would have to pass an array or hash with every single control the form contains. I think I would prefer a hash, because I could still name the controls and didn't have to fiddle with array indices... guinness Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 OK. I'm intrigued as to what you come up with, especially as I don't quite understand your usage of the term "hash". pandel Posted July 1, 2013 Author Posted July 1, 2013 (edited) OK. I'm intrigued as to what you come up with, especially as I don't quite understand your usage of the term "hash". I am intrigued, too , as I have no really good idea and not enough time at the moment... Regarding my usage of 'hash', have a look at UDF_ArrayAlternatives.au3. There are some interesting functions using System.Collections.Hashtable. I.e., I could think of creating a basic workflow for form creation like this: $hGUI = GUICreate(....) $oGUI = _ObjHashCreate() $ctrl1 = GUICtrlCreateXXX(...) _ObjHashAdd($oGUI, "hGUI", $hGUI) $ctrl1 = GUICtrlCreateXXX(...) _ObjHashAdd($oGUI, "ctrl1", $ctrl1) $ctrl2 = GUICtrlCreateXXX(...) _ObjHashAdd($oGUI, "ctrl2", $ctrl2) .... If you do it like this, you can pass $oGUI and have access to every form control via _ObjHashGetValue($oGUI, <control name>), and you don't have to know the amount of controls in advance. I don't know if it works at all, but I would give it a try. Edited July 1, 2013 by pandel ScriptEditor with I18N support and customizable lexer completely written in AutoIt

pandel Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 @guinness: I don't know if you're still reading in this thread, but nevertheless... I came to the conclusion that I have no time to rebuild the whole variable passing stuff. I understand why it is an affordable goal to eliminate every single global variable, but I would have to rewrite too much Regarding the compiler warnings: I rearranged my code a bit, so there should be much less warnings and no more warnings regarding _LexingUDF.au3. There are still some warnings left, but as you know, the package includes a whole lot of different UDFs, so I only changed my own stuff. I didn't want to change other people's code...
