DatMCEyeBall Posted June 22, 2013 Share Posted June 22, 2013 (edited) Since AutoIT is single threaded many people have created ways to multithread in AutoIT. Searching the forums I found many ways to multithread. So what is the best way to use multi-threading in an autoit script? Is there anyway to run a function in another thread? Or compile 2 or more scripts into a single multi-threading .exe? Edited June 22, 2013 by DatMCEyeBall "Just be fred, all we gotta do, just be fred." -Vocaliod "That is a Hadouken. guinness Posted June 22, 2013 Share Posted June 22, 2013 Firstly do you understand what "multi-threading" is? Or did your friend tell you that "mult-threading" is the shizzle!? czardas Posted June 22, 2013 Share Posted June 22, 2013 (edited) You can pack a second exe inside the first using FileInstall ==> unpack it ==> run it and I believe you can comunicate with it using >mailslot by trancexx. I haven't tried this with compiled scripts yet. Edited June 22, 2013 by czardas operator64 ArrayWorkshop Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
guinness Posted June 22, 2013 Share Posted June 22, 2013 How I do it is... 1. Compile a second AutoIt file as an a3x file. 2. Use _RunAu3 (search the Forum) 3. Communicate with the file using WM_COPYDATA (see my signature.) It's what I do for SciTE Jump, see my signature again. noellarkin 1 UDF List: _AdapterConnections() • _AlwaysRun() • _AppMon() • _AppMonEx() • _ArrayFilter/_ArrayReduce • _BinaryBin() • _CheckMsgBox() • _CmdLineRaw() • _ContextMenu() • _ConvertLHWebColor()/_ConvertSHWebColor() • _DesktopDimensions() • _DisplayPassword() • _DotNet_Load()/_DotNet_Unload() • _Fibonacci() • _FileCompare() • _FileCompareContents() • _FileNameByHandle() • _FilePrefix/SRE() • _FindInFile() • _GetBackgroundColor()/_SetBackgroundColor() • _GetConrolID() • _GetCtrlClass() • _GetDirectoryFormat() • _GetDriveMediaType() • _GetFilename()/_GetFilenameExt() • _GetHardwareID() • _GetIP() • _GetIP_Country() • _GetOSLanguage() • _GetSavedSource() • _GetStringSize() • _GetSystemPaths() • _GetURLImage() • _GIFImage() • _GoogleWeather() • _GUICtrlCreateGroup() • _GUICtrlListBox_CreateArray() • _GUICtrlListView_CreateArray() • _GUICtrlListView_SaveCSV() • _GUICtrlListView_SaveHTML() • _GUICtrlListView_SaveTxt() • _GUICtrlListView_SaveXML() • _GUICtrlMenu_Recent() • _GUICtrlMenu_SetItemImage() • _GUICtrlTreeView_CreateArray() • _GUIDisable() • _GUIImageList_SetIconFromHandle() • _GUIRegisterMsg() • _GUISetIcon() • _Icon_Clear()/_Icon_Set() • _IdleTime() • _InetGet() • _InetGetGUI() • _InetGetProgress() • _IPDetails() • _IsFileOlder() • _IsGUID() • _IsHex() • _IsPalindrome() • _IsRegKey() • _IsStringRegExp() • _IsSystemDrive() • _IsUPX() • _IsValidType() • _IsWebColor() • _Language() • _Log() • _MicrosoftInternetConnectivity() • _MSDNDataType() • _PathFull/GetRelative/Split() • _PathSplitEx() • _PrintFromArray() • _ProgressSetMarquee() • _ReDim() • _RockPaperScissors()/_RockPaperScissorsLizardSpock() • _ScrollingCredits • _SelfDelete() • _SelfRename() • _SelfUpdate() • _SendTo() • _ShellAll() • _ShellFile() • _ShellFolder() • _SingletonHWID() • _SingletonPID() • _Startup() • _StringCompact() • _StringIsValid() • _StringRegExpMetaCharacters() • _StringReplaceWholeWord() • _StringStripChars() • _Temperature() • _TrialPeriod() • _UKToUSDate()/_USToUKDate() • _WinAPI_Create_CTL_CODE() • _WinAPI_CreateGUID() • _WMIDateStringToDate()/_DateToWMIDateString() • Au3 script parsing • AutoIt Search • AutoIt3 Portable • AutoIt3WrapperToPragma • AutoItWinGetTitle()/AutoItWinSetTitle() • Coding • DirToHTML5 • FileInstallr • FileReadLastChars() • GeoIP database • GUI - Only Close Button • GUI Examples • GUICtrlDeleteImage() • GUICtrlGetBkColor() • GUICtrlGetStyle() • GUIEvents • GUIGetBkColor() • Int_Parse() & Int_TryParse() • IsISBN() • LockFile() • Mapping CtrlIDs • OOP in AutoIt • ParseHeadersToSciTE() • PasswordValid • PasteBin • Posts Per Day • PreExpand • Protect Globals • Queue() • Resource Update • ResourcesEx • SciTE Jump • Settings INI • SHELLHOOK • Shunting-Yard • Signature Creator • Stack() • Stopwatch() • StringAddLF()/StringStripLF() • StringEOLToCRLF() • VSCROLL • WM_COPYDATA • More Examples... KaFu Posted June 22, 2013 Share Posted June 22, 2013 In SMF I work with a single command-line switched executable / script. On first start the main process is called, which than runs the program again with certain switches to create worker-instances of itself. Communication is done with a combo of WM_COPYDATA, switches in the SQLite Database and shared memory buffers... additionally I remember seeing examples using mailslots or shared mapped files. So in my opinion there is no "best" solution, all have their pros and cons. Using WM_COPYDATA you can interrupt the current function in the target script, using SQLite gives you persistent memory and using shared memory buffers you can transfer huge amounts of data very fast. Choose the type of inter-script communication which best fits the task at hand. czardas and Zohar 2 OS: Win10-22H2 - 64bit - German, AutoIt Version: 3.3.16.1, AutoIt Editor: SciTE, Website: https://funk.eu AMT - Auto-Movie-Thumbnailer (2024-Oct-13) BIC - Batch-Image-Cropper (2023-Apr-01) COP - Color Picker (2009-May-21) DCS - Dynamic Cursor Selector (2024-Oct-13) HMW - Hide my Windows (2024-Oct-19) HRC - HotKey Resolution Changer (2012-May-16) ICU - Icon Configuration Utility (2018-Sep-16) SMF - Search my Files (2024-Oct-20) - THE file info and duplicates search tool SSD - Set Sound Device (2017-Sep-16) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

DatMCEyeBall Posted June 23, 2013 Author Share Posted June 23, 2013 The script(s) I'm working on scan your whole harddrive and save the list into a .txt file, this file gets split into memory when you search for something it then continues to look for matches using StringRegExp() and lists them in a listveiw control. It took about ~5-6 minutes to "index" a 2TB hard drive(It has about 500GB free) and another ~1-2 minutes to search, during this time it only used 50% CPU. So, if I have 2 threads scanning with a shared index buffer and shared GUI controls, would SQLite be the best solution? (I seem to use solution in the wrong places, I blame VS Express!) junkew Posted June 23, 2018 Share Posted June 23, 2018 I would be surprised if scanning harddrive multi threaded is quicker then single thread as I make the assumption (never tested it) your harddrive will be the limiting factor. Maybe test it with findfirstfile/findnextfile and compare for NTFS with FindFirstVolumeMountPoint/FindNextVolumeMountPoint FAQ 31 How to click some elements, FAQ 40 Test automation with AutoIt, Multithreading CLR .NET Powershell CMDLets Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
