Running multiple exe through Auto IT

Before we can give any coding advice we need to fully understand the problem.

You want to run A.exe and wait till it has finished, then run b.exe.

The examples I provided should achieve this.
As it doesn't work I'm sure A.exe starts other programs and the exits.

We need to know which programs have to end before we can safely start B.exe.

That's the information you need to provide!

I would like clarify more here.

Iam runing abc.exe which is a base package ,and i need to apply service pack which is def.exe so the requirement is that def should never start until abc.exe completely finishes.

so when i execute script what is apperaing in the task manager abc.exe *32 and def.exe *32.

When first installation comples abc.exe *32 will disappear from task manager .

Is there anyway i can restrict def.exe *32 to wait until abc.exe *32 deiappear from tm and start def.exe *32

any help would be highly appreaciated.

But where does Setup.exe come from as you noted in post #5?

Yes,abc.exe run in the screen and setup.exe appears in the task manager.

Can you please give us a screenshot of the taskmanager while abc.exe and setup.exe are running? Saves us a lot of questions.

I will explain like this

Runwait("D:abc.bat")

Runwait("D:def.bat")

and abc.bat file contains

"D:setup.exe" !quiet=D:silentinstall-SPB.ini
 

and def.bat file contains

"D:Hotfix_SPB16.50.038_wint_1of1.exe" !quiet=D:silent.ini
 

so setup.exe is coming from abc.bat file and Hotfix_SPB16.50.038_wint_1of1.exe is coming from def.bat

as suggested by you iam usning the below code

Runwait("D:abc.bat")

While 1
   If Not ProcessExists("abc.bat") Then ExitLoop
WEnd

Runwait("D:def.bat")

when i run this script in task manager i can setup.exe *32 and Hotfix_SPB16.50.038_wint_1of1.exe *32

OK. now I see the problem! Do you see it too?

Check the taskmanager for abc.bat. You won't find any.

So it doesn't make sense to check for a process named "abc.bat".

Use the following code instead:

Runwait("D:\abc.bat")
While 1
    If Not ProcessExists("setup.exe") Then ExitLoop
WEnd
Runwait("D:\def.bat")

In the batch file you can also add START /WAIT and then monitor the PID returned by the batch file, as the batch file will monitor when Setup is closed.

Though the main question is why a batch file? This can be done in AutoIt, surely?

Minor enhancement. Add a Sleep statement to the loop so the script doesn't eat up all CPU:

Runwait("D:\abc.bat") 
While 1
    If Not ProcessExists("setup.exe") Then ExitLoop
    Sleep(10000) ; sleep for 10 seconds
WEnd
Runwait("D:\def.bat")

Hello,

Sorry to ask you again,I have a problem.

When network delays are more and If the first installation taking time then While loop keep processing ,the Process is not getting closed after first installation and therefore not allowing second Installation to start.

Any advice would be of great help.

The script loops as long as there is a Setup.exe running. When the first installation closes is there still a setup.exe in the processs list?

Yes,after closing also there is process running in Task manager.

I will try to explian more clear.

When i run first exe file in the task manager i can see two processes.One is Setup.exe and another one is Setup_SPA.exe.

When first installation completed setup.exe is getting closed and setup_SPA.exe is still exists in the Task manager and there by second installation not getting started.

Do you suggest using two processes in the same loop ?

also how can i close two processes after first installation if those are going automatically?
