check array dimension

Hi,

the function IPDetails returns an 2 dimensional array, with all info of the network interfaces it finds.

In the first dimension $aArray[x] is the network interface. The second part $aArray[][x] is the info.

(for example $aArray[1][1] will show you the ip adress for the first network interface.

$aArray[1][2] will show you the mac address of the first interface)

Now, when there are no network interfaces the array is empty.

IPDetails function :

Func IPMenu()

$aArray = _IPDetails()

if $aArray[1][1] Then --> get error here

GUICtrlSetData ($lIP,$aArray[1][1])

EndIf

.... //rest of code

When I run this script i get an error : ==> Array variable has incorrect number of subscripts or subscript dimension range exceeded. This is becaus $aArray[1][] doesnt exist. (no network interfaces found)

How can you check if the array is empty or not? I need to be sure that $aArray[x][1] ,, that the X exists.

Does _IPDetails return the number of rows in $aArray[0][0]?

So when you called _IPDetails there is only an array to process if @error = 0.

That's my function for anyone wondering, the OP forgot to post a link (search in my signature.) The function sets @error so all the OP has to do is check for this or is $aReturn[0][0] is greater than zero.

indeed, i used your code to get the ip info ;-)

i'm making somehting like gimagex for the company i work for.

But, when i run the code on a computer without network interfaces. I get the error ......

Tried to check with IsArray, but that didn't help.

Actually you don't need to set the default parameter to 1, because it is that already.

I think this is just a workaround. If you want to check that a function ran without an error you need to check @error.

_IPDetails returns an array with 0 elements when no adapter can be found. So you code should look like:

   $aArray = _IPDetails()
   if @error = 0 And $aArray[0][0] > 0 Then GUICtrlSetData ($lIP,$aArray[1][1])
.... //rest of code

If $aReturn[0][0] Then ... ; No need for @error checking really.

I always check for @error because I want to distinguish an error from no data to return.

The function is something I created a long time ago, so perhaps I should re-work the return values or someone else can.
