Noviceatthis
Hello all This may be a stupid question and apologies if its already been answered, but in what situations would you run as opposed to shellexecute and vica verca, because to me it seems as though they do the same thing
Moderators Melba23 Posted February 21, 2013 Moderators Share Posted February 21, 2013 (edited) Noviceatthis,The clue is in the parameters you pass:- Run - an executable which will "run" using the parameters passed to it- ShellExecute - a file which will be run by Windows using the executable associated with that file typeBoth of these will run Notepad with a specified file (assuming Notepad is your default text file editor: Run("Notepad.exe fred.txt") ShellExecute("fred.txt")All clear? aleph01
Noviceatthis, I believe it was Melba23 that pointed out to me some time ago that ShellExecute can also be used to open a program in a specific mode. For instance, InfoPath has a design mode. I was unable to open it in design mode with the Run command, but with ShellExecute I was. Here's how: $filename = InputBox ("File Name", "Please enter the InfoPath file path and name to be republished.", "", "", 635,125) ShellExecute ($filename, "", "", "design") WinWait ("(Design) Microsoft Office InfoPath") ;commands to work with the file in Design mode go here Using the Run command, I was simply opening the InfoPath form in normal mode when I needed to open it in Design mode in order to republish it. Good luck in your endeavors. _aleph_ Meds. They're not just for breakfast anymore.
BrewManNH
You could use Run("Infopath /design") Which will open Infopath in design mode as well. aleph01
Thanks for the tip, BrewManNH. I would never have tried that based on the syntax for the Run command. Meds. They're not just for breakfast anymore.
