czardas
Read this I have been contemplating the posts which lead up to Valik's explanaition:Both of these are good points, and it makes me doubt the validity of explicitly declaring variables out of context for beginners to learn from. In other words it might be as well to go the extra mile and include the function to avoid confusion. I consider this to be better than declaring a local variable in global scope when it belongs inside a function. I personally think these subtleties of scope are more for advanced users to discover as you become more familiar with general programming concepts. BrewManNH
I'd agree with you czardas, if you provide examples with variables declared Local but in the Global scope, it will only lead to confusion for anyone learning the language. The new users will start declaring everything Local without knowing the implications and having issues all over the place that they can't understand. This in turn will probably lead many to drop the language because it's "broken". If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.Give a programmer the correct code and he can do his work for a day. czardas
@BrewmanNH Thanks for your comment. The best method is not necessarily the easiest way to demonstrate a straight forward, or unrelated, concept. For example: an answer to a question about deactivating Hotkeys might be more educational even though setting an accelerator key turns out to be more suited to the task. guinness
With the help file examples we use this for checking scripts with Au3Check advanced parameters: #AutoIt3Wrapper_AU3Check_Parameters=-q -d -w 1 -w 2 -w 3 -w- 4 -w 5 -w 6 -w- 7 Of course if I were to declare Local variables in 'File scope' then I would probably wrap it in a function.
