Those functions you mentioned I haven't touched yet, also look at the changes I made to the File functions a couple of days ago (not FileCopy/Move yet) and you will see this is what I've been doing. S

Ok, so AutoIt doesn't do anything special with these at the moment making them equivalent to REG_SZ. Perhaps this should be a feature request for AutoIt.

But the system does of course.

Not really. According to the page AZJIO linked to, it's up to the application to expand variables, which autoit doesn't do. I guess if you are writing to keys that other applications use then it might be different.

Maybe it will have to be "A string that may contain environment variables to be expanded. These are not treated any differently to REG_SZ by autoit, but may be by other applications"

Can we see about getting more examples to the help section - it is great, but believe that we could add to it. Either that or I ask @Jon to create a new section on the forum with subforums under it for different types of HELP EXAMPLES - idea would be to get MVPs or those willing to search for good ones on the forum or that have good ones to add...a lot different then the EXAMPLE SCRIPTS - where they are full scripts. I am asking to get more smaller ones, ie to the point? Bad words to try and post late at night, but thought I would give them a try.

You don't have to bother Jon with this matter.

As I have said many many times throughout my time working on the help file, I'm happy to add examples to the help file so long as they exhibit good coding practice, UDF notation (AutoIt-hungarian-like notation) and provide the end user with a concise and clear idea of the function it's describing i.e. use comments.

If you intend for me to include the example above, then please adhere to these simple rules. Thanks

Edit: I will also consult Mat (+ a few others) on this matter, because I can see it will help with improving the help file, but showing people "working code" the "wrong way" is going to cause problems for the user as they develop their coding skills in later life.

Unfortunately it still doesn't meet the requirements I posted above and I linked to a GUI example for reference. When I started Valik showed me one example StringToBinary and said do it like that from now on. I had to quickly learn.

Also this is not against you, I have some examples floating around the Forum which aren't fit to be in the help file and would require a lot of re-tweaking.

As you can appreciate AutoIt has gone from an 'automation tool' to the realms of a programming language. So one thing I'm trying to do is demonstrate a consistent style within the help file as well as demonstrating the right way to do things. If users decide not to take this advice then that's their prerogative, I've done my job as far as I'm concerned. I hope you and others understand my goal.

Thanks, I still like the idea of having a section of the forum to show more examples of a function or macro in use. Someone posted a great and easy way to create an array of values...I just thought this was the coolest little trick.
