Identifying if Windows is 32 or 64 bits

why would someone WANT to generate a false positive to make your program run in a way that their computer apparently wouldn't be able to handle or understand?

Ok well sorry the wording isn't very good

What I meant is that there is no 100% sure-fire way of knowing if an OS is 64 bits by just checking for specific files or folders (such as WOW64.dll). There's bound to be false positives along the way. You can bet I'll try to fool my program to check if it works properly also

BTW, I've got a bunch of files but I'm not quite sure yet where they're supposed to be. So far I know there is a second "Program File" folder called "Program Files (x64)". Does that mean there is also "System64" folder?

I think I will need to install MS's emulator and install a 64 bit OS after all ....

64 bit windows cannot execute 16 bit programs. well that is what i read anyways. also 64 bit programs cannot run on windows 32 systems. something to ponder.

I didn't do my homework yet but I'm hoping Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 will do just that

Errr... done my homework and ...no. VirtualPC doesn't do 64bits at all. So I'll need access to a real 64Bit OS on a real 64Bit PC or someone nice enough to answer my questions in order to finish that part of my program
