Default text on InputBox when it's empty?

Well, however i thought it's something obvious but i didn't found anything related.

An InputBox that shows a default text while it's empty.

Any idea?

Not exactly, but that was a perfect start.

How is that any different to what I gave you? Apart from the font not being grey I can't see what else you wanted. Please re-phrase your question this time to be a little more specific. Edited by guinness

Let me explain why i need this, i'm designing a GUI for an Accounts List for something, there should be 20 Inputs for Username, 20 Inputs for Password and 20 Checkboxes for an option.

I made it this way:

But it's not as simple as i want it to be, it's somehow complicated and the window size is so big for the main GUI, i thought maybe removing the labels (Username: , Password:) can save me lots of space.

Any way, any other suggestion on how to manage a better list can be great.

About your code, even if the input box wasn't empty clicking on it hides the current text.

Perhaps a TreeView with usernames would be easier.

This was just a proof of concept so of course it was going to require you to modify it to your needs as your problem wasn't explained in full.

GUICtrlSendMsg ( controlID, msg , wParam, lParam )

Example:

GUICtrlSendMsg($Username1, 0x1501, 0, "Username")  ; 0x1501 (Text is grey)
What message is that? I just did a search on MSDN and it back with EM_SETCUEBANNER.

Edit: Just tried it and for some reason the input text colour didn't turn grey. Using 7 x64.

I know not all the functions and commands.

Until now I always used to put GUICtrlSendMsg after an action, the Description field.

The set color is valid only for the message to the input field.

When you click in the Texfeld for input, get out of the description and the text entry box is empty.

That was the question here.

EM_SETCUEBANNER I did not know yet.

Thank you, I'm going to test my scripts.

To put a default text on an InputBox the best way is to use EM_SETCUEBANNER message, it's well explained here:

I have used that this way and it works perfectly, thanks to Autolaser.

So for me (Win7 X86), I have the same result.

No matter whether I use $ EM_SETCUEBANNER or 0x1501.

The only advantage of 0x1501 when I use, I do not need # include <EditConstants.au3> :bye:

If no variables are needed from the # include <EditConstants.au3>, then there is the advantage in the size of the compiled EXE :oops:

By reading the MSDN page you referenced and looking at _GUICtrlComboBox_Get/SetCueBanner this appears to be the correct approach.
