Khryus
Hello, I wanted to ask if there's a function which returns a files extension. I can't find any on the help file. I'd also like to know if it's possible to find a files lenght if it is a music or video file. Thanks "The story of a blade is linked in Blood." ―Yasuo
Moderators Melba23 Posted March 10, 2012 Moderators Share Posted March 10, 2012 megablox, To get then extension I use something like this: $sFile = "test.xyz" $sExt = StringRegExpReplace($sFile, "^.*.", "") MsgBox(0, "Extension", $sExt) And to find the length I use something like this. Khryus
Thanks, melba. I still have a question: since folders don't have an extension, if I use your method, will it error or will it return an empty string ("") ? water
The best method to answer such questions is to try it yourself. You learn the most when you not only read but try it yourself. AutoIt provides a function to split drive, path, filename, extension: _PathSplit. Moderators Melba23 Posted March 10, 2012 Moderators Share Posted March 10, 2012 megablox, Who says folders cannot have an extension? If you want to know if a random name is a file or folder, I would check in the attributes like this: If StringInStr(FileGetAttrib($sName), "D") M23 Xandy 1 Any of my own code posted anywhere on the forum is available for use by others without any restriction of any kind Open spoiler to see my UDFs: Spoiler ArrayMultiColSort ---- Sort arrays on multiple columnsChooseFileFolder ---- Single and multiple selections from specified path treeview listingDate_Time_Convert -- Easily convert date/time formats, including the language usedExtMsgBox --------- A highly customisable replacement for MsgBoxGUIExtender -------- Extend and retract multiple sections within a GUIGUIFrame ---------- Subdivide GUIs into many adjustable framesGUIListViewEx ------- Insert, delete, move, drag, sort, edit and colour ListView itemsGUITreeViewEx ------ Check/clear parent and child checkboxes in a TreeViewMarquee ----------- Scrolling tickertape GUIsNoFocusLines ------- Remove the dotted focus lines from buttons, sliders, radios and checkboxesNotify ------------- Small notifications on the edge of the displayScrollbars ----------Automatically sized scrollbars with a single commandStringSize ---------- Automatically size controls to fit textToast -------------- Small GUIs which pop out of the notification area
