File extension?

Hello, I wanted to ask if there's a function which returns a files extension. I can't find any on the help file. I'd also like to know if it's possible to find a files lenght if it is a music or video file. Thanks

To get then extension I use something like this:

$sFile = "test.xyz"
$sExt = StringRegExpReplace($sFile, "^.*.", "")
MsgBox(0, "Extension", $sExt)

And to find the length I use something like this.

Thanks, melba. I still have a question: since folders don't have an extension, if I use your method, will it error or will it return an empty string ("") ?

The best method to answer such questions is to try it yourself. You learn the most when you not only read but try it yourself.

AutoIt provides a function to split drive, path, filename, extension: _PathSplit.

Who says folders cannot have an extension?

If you want to know if a random name is a file or folder, I would check in the attributes like this:

If StringInStr(FileGetAttrib($sName), "D")
